  1. A very original angle of this famous bulding in Bucharest, putting it in a different context. Lovely mist and sunrise light.

I see a very good beginning for a series of pictures of iconic buildings of Bucharest (this one and all the current pictures in your Single Photos folder).

  2. This picture may very well be out of my league, but I'm gonna give you my opinion anyway :)

Somehow, the rightmost 1/8 of the picture doesn't seem to add anything usefull IMO. I think the composition would be better without the car to the right (but keeping the person on the sidewalk), even if this means not having the full bench in the picture. Do we need the whole bench?

Other than that, the two simultaneous stories in this picture makes it more intense, which I love.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Mischief....

I love this shot, it's full of life.

The cropped bodies are not really bothering me. In my opinion, they actually make the whole picture more natural - a slice of life.

If anything, I would crop those bodies some more: just between the man's waist and the woman's. The upper part of the picture would be a bit simpler (as it is, the woman's right hand intersects both the leg in the middle and the man's left hand).

    Anyway, a great shot!

I like the second version better.

I think you're right about the need for some border to hold the collage together. What about a simple gray border? It could be beneficial for all the colors in the picture.

If you want to add a picture to this page (along with a comment), just keep that picture's width under 566 pixels.

    Convergence

This picture does justice to this beautiful building in downtown Bucharest. (Intentional pun.)

    Excellent angle, well done technically.

OT: Unfortunately, there's not much convergence inside the Palace of Justice :(

    Humble Beggar

The picture itself suggests lack of compassion, solitude, etc. I think it might have more impact in monocrome, maybe even in low key.

As for the beggar, I have noticed a detail: look at her hands! She's not old, she's not malnourished. This is the real contrast in this picture.

    Just my 2 cents.

The cloud themselves might be interesting, but for me the borders are too much and prevent me from focusing on the actual picture/collage.

As it is, it could be a (very) colorfull decorative work - but, again, less (borders) would be more (of a picture).

I'm not rating it, I'm waiting for the borderless version.

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. @ AJ khadash: thanks for your kind words!

@ Anthea Scotte: Thanks for giving such an extensive critique!

The composition was kind of forced by the two panes near bottom-left, which distorted the reflection much more than the others. I wanted to catch a whole "bulge" in a pane. (It's just the crane's cabin, but heavily distorted.) This is how the nub got on the next wall.

In post-processing, I chose to keep the nub just for the fun of it, no serious reason. Your cropped version is simpler and, according to my basic rules, better :)

I took this picture just for fun, it was fun processing it in Capture NX2 (still learning) and I posted it on Photo.net as an experiment, for everybody here seem to favor bold colors. I never expected anybody to like it as much as you have. But looking at your portfolio, I can see that this picture comes close to your kind of photography (shapes and patterns).

    Thanks, see you around!

I'm not sure I like the textured canvass. I'd rather see the rose's own texture.

Why don't you upload a non-textured version and see how they compare?

    Just my 2 cents.

    Podium

I love the composition. I think the title is perfect and really adds impact to the picture.

One thing that bothers me (just a bit): the picture is a little tilted to the left.

Congratulations for your keen eye that saw this!

  4. Thanks for your critique, Ton! And yes, I think you're right about converting it to b&w. This is a picture that lends itself extremely well to b&w. But being a beginner in digital post-processing (a little over one month) I've been trying all kinds of "smart" effects and overlooking the obvious.

  5. There are many pictures of Fall that rely exclusively on color. Some of them can be really pleasant in a decorative way, but in order to transcend to the artistic realm they would need something more. Well, in this picture I think you managed to find that "something". For me, that human presence really makes the difference, along with the fine fog and subtle light. This picture breathes, it takes me there.

Nit-picking: somehow, the bluish light on top looks out of place to me. I would even crop above the yellow tree.

Last but not least: great title!

P.S. Almost hit the "Proceed" button, but paid a short visit to your portfolio. For now I'll only say this: I love "The Counseling Center" and I think it belongs to your portfolio. But I'll be back :)
