  1. Hi all,

I've been asked at work to help setup a camera for taking macro shots

of jewelry and its not doing what I think it should be able too. We

are using an EOS 350D(Rebel XT) with a Sigma 105/2.8 EX DG Macro lens

and a Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring Flash. As this camera is going to be

used by several people (non camera people) so I want to set it up so

its easy to use. From similar work I've done years ago I would set

the camera in aperture priority mode @ f32, the camera detects the

flash and sets to its sync mode and the camera shuts down the flash

when the correct exposure is reached, tweaks to the exposure are done

    via the exp comp dial.

Now with the above equipment the camera is mixing the flash with

timed exposures in everything but Auto mode. Its as if the flash

isn't totally compatible with the camera.. I come from a Nikon

background so apologies if its the dopey users not the equipment.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. If it's got to be the MP... Black MP + 35mm cron

If it was for me and I was going new today... Black M6TTL .58 (local store has in stock) + 35mm cron.

If I could buy used (and I would).. Used black M6TTL .58 or M6 Classic .72 + used 35mm cron + a couple CV lenses (wide & std focal lengths). I'd also be thinking of future upgrades that "John A" did to his M6 posted here last month ... MP winder arm, MP finder upgrade, Red dot changed to black ... That's a very nice M you have John.

  3. Out of my collection of Soviet leica copies I have a couple that would skip a frame often should I put film thru them, you can feel the problem dry firing them. As you go to wind for your next shot you can feel a lack of tension, where it should stop ready to shoot you can feel it pick up the shutter curtains (tension) and then wind as normal but you have used the equivalent of two frames to get the shutter cocked. This may or may not be what your leica is doing, you should be able to check it by dry firing it without film. If thats what it is doing youre looking at a bit of repair/service work. I hope thats of some help.

  4. I was out in a rain storm with my F3HP a couple of years ago and I was trying to keep the worst off it by keeping under my coat when not taking shots but it did get a good soaking, I think combination of being wet and my body heat caused the finder to fog to the point where I couldn't see thru it any more (after an hour or so). Back at the hotel it only took a couple of minutes with a hair dryer to gently warm it to clear it.
  5. "is it essentially worthless for normal photographic use"

Nope, it sounds like you have a M39 to M42 adaptor made for adapting lenses made for the early Russian (and others?) SLR's (M39) to fit the later more standard M42 mount. Using rangefinder glass will only work for close-up. You need an adaptor with a glass element to correct the lens-film distance and them I think it will multiply the focal length like a tele-converter.
