I just did the same thing a few weeks ago. I hadn't shot in may theaters before so I thought that the light would be really low. The thing I didn't consider was that the stage lights are bright. I just shot raw with auto iso (f4-5.6). I had no problems having enough light. The biggest problem I had was other people's flashes blowing out my pics. Shooting raw allowed me to bring back most of them.
Macro lens suggestion. Looking to buy my first.
