when it fell the first time...wat kind of repair it had.. see if AF or Manual the way the lens works is the same. The lens is adjusting the internal lens assembly by a motor in AF. In manual mode you do it by turning the focus ring.
If AF works means the lens is ok. Just check when it is in AF whether the mt/ft indicator is turning or not when the lens is trying to focus and check the same for the manual mode. It could be that the focus ring is detached from the lens assembly. there will be some small screw which needs to tighened a bit. it should not be a problem.... you can live with that problem atleast for a while.

i dont c anything so unusual in the pic to say that the pic is 'overdone' in ps. only cropping is a bit too tight..

Interesting: I dont think 3 weeks is a lot of time idle!! I have few questions...
Reg. the first part of the question: normally with the review button you should have noticed whether the pictures are stored or not!! also by no. of shots left etc etc.. Its a bit surprising you have not noticed it. If the camera didnot give an error then it should store somewhere :). it wont be like if you have 2 cards camera gets confused and dont know where to store. it wont happen like that.
If the camera shows ERR means it is not reading the cards. either both the cards are damaged and if not the camera electonics might got screwed up!!! check the batteries again anyway...
thats my opinion from what you described....

It depends on aperture n lens. In P&S becasuse the focal length is small and aperture starts around 3.5 making it a bit difficult. But it is very much achievable. try flowers. easiest.
1. Make sure that the subject is very very close in ~ 20 cms.
2. Make sure that there is enough distance between the subject and the background~ 2 mts.

It did sound to me that you are alone in this. :)..... even if you take 10000 pic in 8 hrs still it is not that much for the finger tip. In an hour we press more clicks with our mouse when we use the computer. hope the finger are not getting locked. you may be diabetic. hope u r using dslrs :) ha ha

The best thing is to try what i have suggested so that you are sure it is not the problem with the sensor. No framing.
Then you try changing framing rate then if you get the problem you can think it is due to the inside sensor read out problem.

the best way to check it. open the aperture fully, take a picture of a illuminated white wall and dofcus the wall( dont focus it.). take a set of pictures at different shutter speeds (Manual mode). IF needed use a tripod. If you get streaks at any shutter speed then you can think it is a problem with the sensor. if you are brave enough, take pictures without lens but in a dim lighted room.

it shld cost you dearly though..

50 mm lens has been a standard for a while. 85 mm is too is a good option. FX lens i mean. you get what you see with these lenses. ideal in my opinion. need zoom walk few steps forward.

:) the secruity will get nervous if you take pictures of xray machines. otherwise it should be all ok. they see thousands carrying cameras and they will have least doubt on guys who use professional cameras as terroists use a bit inferior type cameras i suppose.

Try to take the picture when the moon is closest to the horizon on a full moon day...you need a 200 mm lens....Focus on the moon and set ur exposure to moon. I cannt make out from ur picture that it is moon....

A gear inside might have got misaligned or broken. If you decide to buy a new one then you can open it and see how it looks like inside :).... however, you need to be careful that you dont touch the lens. buy the right screw drivers, lens ring openers and lenses cleaning tissue paper. After all the effort of opening if something is really broken inside, then you have to take it to the shop anyway. so, take it to the shop...if they charge you 1/4th of the lens cost it is still worth.

you wont be using std slr lenses to their full potential with smaller chips

:)...There wont be any stress on the film holder in the camera, so you dont have to worry. It is as if you used the camera regularly for 3 years. as long as there is not deposits of film or precipitation, i should be ok.
Even if the camera gets damaged, will it make a difference. It should not matter as you are not using the camera anyway. joke ok...

sometimes the cameras needs enough battery. Check the battery level. are you downloading directly from camera?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_value... you need to read this webpage to understand whats under n over exposure. Also though mostly shutter speed is used traditionally, you can adjust with aperture as you can control in the 1/3rd stops in particular with new dslrs. check the EV scale in the camera.

I never heard of 'aperture fracture' technically. Anyways.... the F number(1, 1.4, 1.8, 2, 2.8 ....) control the depth of field. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-number
there is nothing like background blur in principle. it is only the region of acceptable sharpness you get based on your aperture opening and focal length and the rest of it is considered blurred. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_of_confusion
you can search for DOF calculators... so many links are floating in the forums.
to the last question increasig focal length decreases your field of view because of longer focal length lenses . it depends on the distance from the subject. but, one can just say 'yes' for time being. you will get more answers. :)

you need to develop at 25....means increase processing time by ~ 20% of iso 50. alternatively, you can process at 50 but when printing, increase the time by the same amount as said before.

oh!! you are missing northern lights... :(
