I found this whilst trawling the boot sales for vintage photography items - I have no clue what this is, but it looks interesting (and cheap) so I got it. The foam padding on the wooden box had already turned to sticky gunk so cleaned it up.

I am not sure if this is related to photography, and Google searches on whatever I can read off the equipment turned up nothing as well - except for the fact that the company who made it (Grafikon) had already gone bust ages ago.

The original power cord had a strange four-prong plug in it so I replaced it with the standard UK plug just so I can see how it lights up.

The torch (I'll call it that for the mean time) has some sort of an aperture at the handle that you can turn to control the intensity of the light. There is also a removable filter at the mid section of the torch.

I have also removed the top housing so the inner bits can be seen (please see the photos).

May I ask if any of you knows what this is please? Any reply is appreciated.

<img
In addition to all the excellent comments here, maybe illuminate the contents by lighting from the bottom? perhaps you can make the bottle sit on a circular cut-out with a very powerful light from below.

No motor so no auto focus on AF-D; also no metering for non-CPU lenses, so not for me.
-

Even if the mount is repaired the lens may be kaput. I have the same camera/lens and I dropped it at about 2 feet height in a padded bag and the lens will not autofocus anymore (just keeps hunting). The mount though was not damaged. I got rid of the lens (sold it as for spares on that auction site).

Any of the lenses mentioned above would be excellent for weddings and other such affairs. The Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 costs around $1400, the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 costs around $450, the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS HSM both cost around $650 and both are stabilized where the Nikon is not. The Nikon is also bigger and heavier than the others. It's your money and it's your choice.

+1 on this comment.

Keep all of it - you got it for free anyway. The F100 is a very nice Nikon film camera. It is better to have something and not need it and need it and not have it.
If you want to jump into the digital bandwagon get yourself a secondhand Nikon DSLR. I still use a 4MP D2Hs and I'm still very happy with it.

Was browsing the Nikon rumors site when I came across this.
Would you get one?

My Nikon Film Cameras - I'm getting rid of these so putting them together for a final 'get-together' {:<]
Photo taken with a Nikon D2Hs 35mm f1.8 @ f8 1/30 sec ISO200 Sunpak Ring Flash (thus the ugly halo)
D2Hs also getting long in the tooth, so will need to be upgraded (ideally with a lighter one and newer tech - still a Nikon of course!)

I got this item from a bunch of darkroom stuff I bought at the flea market but got no idea what it is - it's marked Durst. If I depress part of the handle there is an electrical discharge on the three points at the curved end of the thing (got zapped by it). Can the knowledgeable folks here please help me identify it - and what it is for? Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I have the Nikkor 50 1.4D and I can't recall ever having a flare problem like yours. If I'm shooting against a bright background (sky) would always try to expose for the background and use fill flash to light up people. Apples and pears but see sample shot taken with a cheap 35mm f1.8, this was taken at high noon (snaphots at a beach BBQ party), a tad over-exposed but you can still see details of the sky and people's faces are visible.

D80 shutter triggers are now so cheap on the net that you'd probably end up spending more (materials + time) if you make your own. But hey, if you have the time and you're a DIY guy, why not? In my case, I just bought a cheap one off the 'bay and got no problems with it.

The plastic mount on the 18-135 seems to be fine, but mine got dropped, mounted on a D80, at a height of about 2 feet, in a padded case, probably landed on an odd angle, and the auto focus became rattly and difficult to focus (hunts, stiff on some points if manually focus). Can be used on manual focus, but mainly serve now as a paper weight.

Had the Nikkor 50-300 f4.5 (non ED version) and once subject is snapped into focus it remained so for the zoom range, pity didn't have photos or videos to show this. Needed a fisheye so sold the 50-300 last year.

The kit lens on my D80 (18-135, plastic mount) is a bit wobbly and sometimes if the contacts are mis-aligned also locks the camera up - just can't seem to recall if the error indication showing on the top LCD is 'F--', 'FEE', or just '---' (might check this later today). If this happens I just twist the lens on the mount until the display looks ok again.

-

I use a bunch of old Sunpak flashes (from a ring light to the hammer head types) which has AC adaptors on my Nikon DSLR's (the Sunpak's trigger voltage, at least the ones I have, is low enough to be safely used on the Nikons).

That's the VR working indeed, as confirmed by Matt. There's an on/off switch for the VR mechanism - try turning it off and the whirring sound will be no more.

Experiences with "Dandelion" chipping?
in Nikon
Posted

Hi Joe, any updates on your last post? :)
I also bought a Nikon dandelion chip back in 2012 but haven't got around to putting it on a lens. I have a Nikkor 55mm f/1.2 that I'd like to put the chip on, but looking at the mount flange, the chip is too thick - I tried filing the chip but some of the copper bits got exposed - not sure if I messed it up :(
I don't think I'd like to butcher the rear mount of the 55 f1.2 though. I might find some spare rear mount to put the chip and test if it is ok.
Has anyone here tried to put the dandelion on a 55mm f/1.2?
