Paul, I completely disagree about the lighthouse. Without it, there is no composition. It's right were it should be.
Now, the little starburst around the light... that's a different story.

I love the concept, but the cloudlike area at the bottom distracts me quite a bit. The gray outline around the child is particularly frustrating.
Also, you might at least think about leveling out the ground at the bottom, if it doesn't interfere with the motion too much.

There's a very simple reason why "this amount" of black space may have been chosen, and it's not particularly arbitrary: the artist chose this amount of white space because it is the right amount.
Of course, that's not to say it is the reason, but it's a particularly good reason.
The image is excellent, why must people complain about the production technique involved? At least it could pass for a photograph if one didn't have special tools with which to view it; the use of computerized tools isn't offensively obvious.
If it were printed on glossy paper, would you be able to tell that the black is synthetic? I think not.

Have to disagree with David. There's clearly no shot without the sunbathers. My only suggestion would be to not crop their feet so tightly.

tell me what you think...

I'm really not sure how I feel about this one.

No filters that do anything really special; this was just Fuji's wonderful colors, a UV filter, and my 20mm ;)

I really like the colors here, with the resemblance to watercolor paints.

I believe that is due to the 19mm focal length -- the lense being circular isn't focusing any light on the corners.

Dropped it about 2 feet -- It already had most of that damage when I bought it, but dropping it popped the faceplate out of the metal. Thankfully, it is still mechanically and optically sound, it just looks horrible.
