my early 2011 MacBook Pro recently $#!+ the bed, and i thought the auto-image importer was Canon's Image Capture
i would plug in the SD card, or connect the camera, and a window would pop up, asking if i would like to select indivitdual files, or import all files.
and with either selection, the pictures would be downloaded into the PICTURES folder, divided into their separate forlders, depending on date file created.
now, with my new IMac, Image Capture just downloads to the PICTURE folder, and doesn't separate out into date-created folders
i can't find a preference to create individual folders for this

i need to record the activity of a cat in my house at night. so its a small, slow-moving target that needs to trigger the motion detection. all of the searches come back with cameras that have every bell and whistle i DO NOT NEED, OR WANT, in a price range i don't want to pay.
here is a long list of the only things that i need in this camera:
- night vision
- motion activation
- micro SD card slot
- wired connection to computer
- driver software so i can watch the video
here's what i DO NOT need:
- HD of any sort
- any kind of mini/micro/hidden/camoflage
- wifi
- blue tooth
- ethernet
- 2-way audio
- 1-way audio
- digital zoom
- any kind of zoom
- push notifications
- android / iphone monitoring
- any other unnecessary silliness
i bought this thing:
but the instructions are entirely unintelligible.
the price was spot-on though
thanks for your help

yeah, its affecting image quality pretty significantly. but i called the store that i got it from and i'm just going to send it back to them.
thanks for the help

is it possible to clean out the dust inside a canon G11 lens? can i do it myself? is it worth paying to have it done?

-

thanks Mel. i should have specified that i meant Bridge as part of my work flow in Photoshop.
I was also wondering. Is there a way to separate out video files into their own folders, when downloading from a digital camera? Either in Bridge downloading/file management, or in Lightroom downloading/file management? because i usually take video with the same camera that i shoot still shots.
once again, thanks for the help

I was wondering if PS-5 has downloading and file management capabilities when you plug in the digital camera (i hate iphoto)
also i was wondering, if i'm using photoshop, is there any reason to get Aperture/Lightroom? Other than for downloading and file management?
and since i'm sure this next question has been asked countless times before, could you point me to a good article comparing the latest versions of Aperture, and Lightroom? i was reading an article, but it was from 2007.
Thanks for all your help.

they're kind of a dinosaur at this point, huh?
btw, i'm currently blanking of the technical term for an input- (ie camera/scanner), or output (monitor/printer) device to detect differences in similar tones and densities. its not gamut, dynamic range or Dmax.
its called...? for instance: web-color (256) has a lower ________ (sensitivity?) than 4-color print.

i'm working with a Macbook Pro, 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo if it matters
i work in color and grey scale
would like to keep the cost "reasonable".
also, is it worth trying to sell the LaCie? i sure as heck don't want to ship it. if i list it on NYC craigslist, what would be a fair price to ask?
thanks for your help

[[but GPS in a camera? no thanks. i don't need to be tracked by "Big Sis" where ever i go.]]
I think you might want to read up on how GPS works. You seem to be very confused.

i understand your point. GPS is only a reciever. but if the camera is able to upload to facebook by itself, then it can also upload the info recorded by the GPS reciever in the camera

-

F550EXR? call me a tinfoil-hat'er, but GPS in a camera? no thanks. i don't need to be tracked by "Big Sis" where ever i go. and especially don't need her secretly swiping copies of every picture i take.
thanks for all your input. i took a read of the canon/nikon/panasonic review. looks like the canon is what i'm looking for.
edit: this is priceless. from an online retailer's description:

16MP Back Side Illuminated CMOS Sensor

Multiple Built-In GPS Functions

3" 460K Resolution LCD

15x Optical Zoom (24-360mm Equiv.) Lens

Stunning 1080p HD Movies

Motion Panorama Mode

Tracking Auto Focus

Face Detection/Red-Eye Removal

EXR Auto Recognizes 27 Scenes

Quick & Simple Uploads to Facebook, [emphasis added by me]

so they've built in a feature that conveniently strips you of all your rights to every photograph you take. BRILLIANT!

from what i've seen so far, the s95 is the only pocket sized p&s that shoots raw. and that's one thing that really draws me to it

-

well, it is sort of at the upper range of what i was looking to spend. so the leica D-Lux is kind of off the list.
i like that its compact and can fit into my pocket (unlike the bulkier G11). and that it shoots raw. and also gets good marks for image quality. and has good low-light shooting ability. i like to shoot at night without flash

-

so i've been wanting to get a pocket sized P&S, and have read in a few places that this is pretty much the best p&s available.
I was wondering if there was anything new coming out, or maybe already released that is an upgrade from the canon s95.
thanks for your help

a number of years ago i took a photography class, and one day the instructor played us a tape of HCB giving a lecture on photograph. it was accompanied by a slide show.
in it, he basically discussed his photographic process and the nature of photography
i tried contacting the instructor, but he never got back to me.
this might be a longshot, but does this description sound familiar to anybody?

-

Thanks for all your responses. lots of other information popping up that i didn't even consider.

You might want to read want Bjorn has to say about Nikkors. ...

Who is Bjorn, and where can i read what he has to say?

D700 is correct. and i rarely, if ever find i want to go longer than 70mm (i can usually crop in the printing process if needed). if anything, i'd want to go to a 20mm

-

camera is a D200, but i'm considering an upgrade to the 7000 for the full-frame sensor. so they would be AF lenses. specifically i would be purchasing:
Nikkor 35mm F2.0D AF, 24mm F2.8D AF, and the 50mm F1.8D AF (maybe the 50mm F1.4D AF).
i've figured that these 3 lenses would cost around $900 (more for the 50-F1.4D)
another thing about zoom lenses is that their max-aperture is smaller, and it changes over the zoom range.
i did some preliminary research on one of the shopping sites (which will remain nameless), and the only lens i could find in that price/focal-length range is:

Sigma 24-70 F2.8 IF EX DG HSM AF

-

if i'm going to buy a 24mm, 35mm and a 50mm i'd be spending about $900. this is the focal range that i mostly shoot.
so is the quality of zoom lenses in this focal range, and price range comparable to fixed lenses?
i tend to prefer fixed lenses because they are compact. a DSLR-body is already bulky enough. i don't like a huge thing hanging off the front.
thanks for your help

I'm thinking about getting the canon s95 and was wondering if the 3 year extended warranty is a good thing to get?
are extended warranties good to get in general?
thanks for your help

i think i only created 1 account here... unless i was drunk, which is a "high" probability

I've read the FAQs
i don't seem to have pictures in any portfolio, but i do have pictures associated with my name some how. and i would like to delete them. but there is no delete option associated with the pictures
thanks for your help

figured it out

i upgraded my MacBook Pro to 10.6.7 (leopard?)
went to print, and now i'm getting error messages
i went to epson's site and downloaded the latest drivers. then restarted my computer.
cant get anything to print. keep getting errors

its the wheel on the back that adjusts the aperture/shutter speed setting that's giving me problems
the ISO/mode dial on the top is fine
