Thanks for the leads!

Yes, this one definitely has an amber cast, much different from the multiple colors in those lenses I'm sure are multi-coated.

I have a G.Zuiko 50mm f1.4 lens that has a black front rim (as opposed to chrome). Is this a single-coated or multi-coated lens? I know most of the single-coated lenses have the chrome rim and the inital letter in front of Zuiko. The look of the lens coating and the results of the photos (sorry, can't scan any right now) make me think it's single-coated. Is there a way to know by the serial number, which is 73xxxx?

"I asked what he was doing, and he said some older glazed ceramic finishes were slightly 'hot;' he said he bought them to resell at a modest profit to other radioactivity fans."
There are fans of radioactivity?

Kind of puts the lie to those concrete vaults that funeral homes sell as "eternal resting places."

Great job, Gene. I'm glad you weren't eaten. Sabino Canyon has had a lot of mountain lion sightings in recent years, due to people in the area leaving food out for other critters that the lions feast on.

Looks like a 35 IV, Gene, rather than an IVa.

I'm with Luis G on this. Sure, you could buy an OM-2 for less than a CLA, but then it might break down in a few months, too. I had a CLA done on an OM in 1998 (after it had been trouble-free for more than 25 years) and it's still going strong. If it's worth owning for many years it's worth a CLA.

The Jupiter-8 is a great lens; I have five of them and they're all superb. Even better is the Helios-103.

Excellent images. I particularly like the snowy sunrise; kudos to you for seeing the picture there. The exposure likewise is spot on. And I realized with the last shot that I'm old enough to remember when that older Camaro was the current pace car.

You bet, Gene. I should have known with your extensive collection that you probably already have one! Good luck tracking down a Sonnar.

I'll second the recommendation on Essex Camera, which a few months ago did a great job of overhauling my Nikon S2, including replacement of the shutter curtains.

Gene, I have a Jupiter-8 lens in Kiev/Contax mount that I will give to you; just let me know where to send it. Try it out and if you don't like it, you're welcome to sell it or pass it along to someone who will use it.

James Chua, I just sold one of those Voigtlander 135mm lenses on eBay.

Really like the shots of the falls and the tree and brook, Gene. Going to 'Zona for business or pleasure?

I got 'em, so here's a photo:
Some suggest the "found film" was faked to create a story but I feel it has the ring of truth. It didn't exactly have a Hollywood ending. I was most interested in seeing the photographers' other images, those that didn't get lost, because their shots are quite good.

That focusing mechanism must make for some serious callouses. Suitable for those wanting to suffer for their art, I suppose. Not cheap, either -- that $155 is nearly $1,400 in today's dollars.

Yes, I already have the Winder 2, Mr. Sarile. (Actually, three of them!)

-

Mr. Rochkind, my latest acquisition likewise is an Olympus FTL. John Hermanson just did a fine job de-fungusing a G.Zuiko 50mm f1.4 lens for me. I also have the 50mm f1.8, the 35mm f2.8 and the 135mm f3.5 lenses.

Excellent post, Gene. I'll chime in and say the car in front of the cathedral most likely is a Pinto.

Despite searching on Google I didn't find this site; probably used too many search criteria. In any event, thanks for the link, Louis. And yes, JDM, I typically do save such info not only as a favorite link but also as a PDF.

Interesting that Olympus actually made this lens at one time, including, presumably, a version in its own mount.

Thanks again, guys!

Well, there's a place called the Wild Animal Park north of San Diego. I'm not saying any of those shots were made there, just throwing out the possibility.

...besides size and weight? I'm referring to the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f3.5 zoom lens in Olympus OM mount. The first one I've owned, beginning with serial number 221xxxxx, is longer, bigger around (uses a 67mm filter) and weighs more, than one I recently got a great deal on. The latter has a serial number 373xxxxx and uses a 62mm filter. Both are in great shape so, in keeping with the OM philosophy, I'm planning to keep the one I recently bought because it's smaller and lighter. But I am curious as to the difference. Is this one of those cases where Vivitar farmed out the lens manufacturing (and probably design as well) to multiple companies?
