I very recently set up a small studio space. I primarily shoot weddings, but wanted to have a space to shoot maternity and babies etc. instead of always going to client homes.
A friend of a friend needed some fashion type shots (a first for me), so we tried out my new space and lights.
Used for these photos were 3 Alien Bees 800's. I used a strip box with grid for hairlight, softbox, and a beauty dish for some of the shots. We changed things up and I did different lighting with his different outfits. It was a lot of fun!
I'd love to hear some thoughts.

Do you use a lot of off camera flash in your images? I noticed that the lighting in nearly every shot (on the entire blog) had superb light.
The shots by windows I'm sure are natural light. Love them. :)

Sergey,
Your work is phenominal. I looked through your enitre blog. I wish you were in Canada to shoot my sister's wedding this Fall! I won't be able to do it since I'm in the wedding party (and I'd like to enjoy the wedding).
On a side note I've visted Russia once when I was 16. Travelled the trans siberian railroad from Khabarovsk to Irkutsk.
I have bookmarked your site to come back and enjoy.

Ok, now I want to know what cameras you were shooting with too. Not because of the above posters reasons, but because of the image of you with the black rapid strap on. They don't look like the usual DSLR.
Beautiful images!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like the album too.

I have a large leather bag. It has 3 compartments. The two outer ones have zippers down the side and are able to expand. I carry a 12x9 40pg flush mount, 3 coffee table books and another album along with my price list (that is in a book). I can cram quite a bit into it and nothing has been damaged.
Also, don't say never to having your own meeting space/showroom. I thought that too and will be opening mine next week. :)

Congrats everyone! These are wonderful "moments" captured!

Here's my first try at actually doing this properly. I've tried before with fewer lights and it's never looked right. I now have 4 Alien Bees and used three of them for this. I had the same setup as Kris drew, but my main light was on camera right. I used barndoors on the background lights.

Have you checked out the tutorial by Zack Arias? Here it is. http://www.zarias.com/white-seamless-tutorial-part-1-gear-space/
I'm just about to set up something like this and give it a whirl.

I was shooting a wedding rehearsal once and I got an error 99 on my camera. I'd seen this before on my 40D, but never the 5D Mk II. As it was the rehearsal I wasn't shooting with two cameras like I do during the actual ceremony. With a quick removal of the battery and reinsertion the camera was thankfully fine again, but this confirmed to me why two cameras are very important.
I lost a lens hood at a wedding (never got it back) and I left my 100mm macro sitting on the head table at a reception a half hour away only to realize when I got home. Back I went. Thankfully it was still sitting there. Now I try not to put anything down. Either it goes in my shootsac or back in my ThinkTank.

Hello! Thank you all for your comments. I just finished up a 3 day indian wedding, so have been away for a little while. I like the tilted crop too. I don't normally tilt at all and tend to try and keep things pretty straight, but I do like it. A tiny bit of the sky is blown in the image right by the grooms head. The rest has detail in the original image.
I did ask the groom to lift his leg. I never thought of it being old school. I was just keeping with the theory... that if it bends... bend it! :) I think he lifted it a bit too much though and it kind of looks like a stork pose to me now.
Again, thank you all for the critique!

Actually I brought the props. Spent $30 at the dollar store. LOL Everyone did really like the plunger. It got some very interesting use and I didn't feel I could post some of them!! LOL I grabbed the plunger in the store because it made me think of the Ravin Rabbids game for Wii.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun. I wish that I'd taken a shot of the whole setup. Not that it was fancy or difficult. It was actually quite easy to do.
I had an 2nd shooter with me for this wedding, but I started taking the shots first because it was my first time and it was fun interacting with the guests! I used pocket wizards to fire the Alien Bee 800. I had the light I'll guess about 10-15 feet back from the backdrop and pretty much centered. It was up maybe 7-8 feet high with a 60" umbrella.
I've shot tethered before (for a school shoot), but didn't do any of that this time. In the future I may try doing that and possibly offering prints onsite. We'll see how it progresses. I didn't even hand out cards to an online gallery for it... which would be smart to do in the future. This time the B&G will just get all the pics on disk. Currently on my pricelist the cost is $175/hr (min 2 hrs) if they have already paid for a 2nd to be at the wedding. The cost is higher if I have to bring someone in specifically to help me with this. This is what I decided to charge before I had actually done one. Now that I've done one I may change things around.

I finally did my first "photobooth" set up at a wedding last night. It was SO much fun! I'm looking forward to selling the idea to more brides.
I had a 8 foot white background on stands. For lighting I used a 60" umbrella with an Alien Bee 800. It was up quite high and shadows mostly fell behind.

I just picked this up and am only part way through. So far it has turned on a light bulb for me. ;-) Looking forward to reading the rest and learning a lot.

Thank you very much! I was thinking they eye needed more light and wondering if anyone would notice. I wasn't sure how to get it there as adding more fill would have it the entire side of his face. Maybe that would have been fine though.
Also... I had nothing to do with the hair/shave!
