Thats obvious Don... everything that is not reality. And since reality does not exist... the only thing that IS is fantasy. Life is just a beautiful dream!

Tiffen filters have a 60's option if I remember correctly but as the guys mentioned above PS should be able to do the work as well.

The word Reality is being used here as if some well formed and defined brick of which we are merrily build our house. Reality can not exist in the empirical sphere since any observation immediately causes “tampering with the results”. We can’t even make a good case of considering photon marks left on film / sensor as an imprint of reality while any attempt at observing, cognition or interpretation immediately transforms it to subjective opinion. 10 individuals observing the same object will create 10 parallel universes which may or may not have similarities.
Protagora noted that “Man is the measure of all things” and how right he was. We really should direct our efforts towards research of the human cognitive process which probably contains all the answers that will ever be of real use to us in our “practical world”. Theoretical science will always point to some amazing notions but many of them will remain outside the cognitive abilities which are at our disposal at this stage of evolution.

I Googled my name and it took me directly to one of my photos on their site. From there I could further browse and I found at least 2 dozen PN members there.
-
I just wanted to note that www.tumblr.com is displaying many PN members photos on their site.

Shared perception? Hmmm.. interesting concept.

I'll go for "herd" John since I believe Humans (as a general concept) lack amity to qualify as a pack.

My grandfather used to say: "Its not what you see lad, its what you have seen." Life is one great Rashomon in which we all percieve the same events in our own subjective way based on our character, experiences, moods, etc. Reality does not exist without perception and perception is subjective.

Tamara Loncar-Agoli here on PN.

In this particular case a plain WOW is completely justified!

Just checking Glenn, just checking....

Wonderfully clever! Thanks Ellis....

Get an Olympus dslr for travel. Great compromise between size and quality.

As Glenn already mentioned photography is a craft (like painting, sculpting, music, etc.) the result of which sometimes is the experience we like to refer to as art.

I have noticed that when members withdraw their photos form their portfolios the pix also disappear from our My
Favourites folder. It would be nice and I suppose in the interest of the member to allow the photo to remain there.
What does the PN policy say?
-
"How many photograph the person need to post in order to get the cup?"
Just one..

What makes a photographer? Curiosity about life and + any device that will capture light on film / pixel.

PhotoFiltre. Easy and fun to use. Great capabilities.

Lex I agree with you that again there will be ambitious people who will crave for higher recognition but I think we are basically discussing different things. One is higher ambition the other is basic contentment. Number 3 on PN depicts a picture bellow average with a slight tendency towards ugly. Right? Whatever the motive of giving a 3 we can assume the author of the photo will understand his work is being described as not good. Since people use the 3 for all sorts of reasons (one of them of course being the fact that a photo can really have a tendency towards ugly) we can never be sure what it is that we did wrong. Knowing what you did wrong is a fundamental part of the learning process.
As I said the positive system would not be more precise in determining the real quality of a photo but it WOULD be kinder and cause less grievance.

I've already said this: "Get rid of the negative grades". Start form Good and go higher:4, 5, 6, 7. If you don't like a picture don't rate it but if you have something to say about it say it. That system would be kinder to the delicate human nature.
