1.
I am looking to create the visual effects you see on every episode of CSI Miami in camera; ie: the wet pavement the oversaturated colors, the extreme blue skies. I'd like to do in camera (D700). Any ideas of where to start (filters, wide lens, boosting sat in camera), or if someone all ready knows how to create this effect, I'd love some feedback.
Thanks,
Eric

  2.
Shot several pictures yesterday, D700 camera was set to TIFF. Any way to convert these to raw? If not any good recommendations for any CS plugins for TIFF adjustment, or other ideas?

Thanks!

  3.
Hopefully someone can help me! Computer HD crashed, installed new one and put on Windows 7 pro 64 bit (upgrade from XP). Installed CS3. I can see all my raw files, but when I try to open in Bridge I get "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I'm shooting D-300 and bridge worked fine before with XP. I do have CS5, wanted to work out bugs before I install.
Anyone seen this, or have any ideas - appreciate any help!
Thanks

  4.
Talking to a insurance agent, the workman comp dosen't cover you as an owner. So as a individual photographer you don't need to carry it. But, if you contract a photographer, even for a day, who doesn't have workmans comp, since you are considered the employer, you must have workmans comp to cover that employee. If the photographer has it all ready, then you don't need to carry it. This how I understand it-still trying to figure it out.

  5.
Matt,
I talked to a NY rep today at lunch and he verified that I am liable for workmans comp; even if its just a contract photographer for a day to help with a shoot, or someone to help with post processing. In NY I'm looking at 1800-2000 dollars, a year, just to hire part time help. Financially it makes no sense (at least for a small bus. owner, its great for the insurer). Also, its a felony if there are more than 5 employees, punishable by a $2000.00 fine for every 10 days without insurance.

  6.
In the past I have made up small 3x5 flyers with company info, website and any other particulars. I may put a sample on also, then have my kids stand at the door and pass them out as people come in. Keeping the size small keeps the price down...works for me.

  7.
I'm looking to expand business this year by using contract help. I have been told that if the contractor does not have workmans comp (I have to verify), I have to supply it. I always thought a contractor was responsible for his own insurance and paperwork ie: tax forms.
Does anyone have any experience in this area? I live in NY, dont know if that matters.
Thanks in advance.
8.
I had the exact same problem with an old 70s. Sent it to Nikon and they replaced the card slot and associated electronics in the camera. Fixed the problem, but wasn't cheap (around 300.00). I was kinda stuck if you ever want to sell the camera you have to have it fixed, but was the camera worth it. I wound up having it fixed, then sold it a couple of years ago to a buddy. Camera still works fine today.
Good Luck!

  9.
Couple of quick thoughts, I had a similar problem with my 70s a while back, I sent the body to Nikon for a cleaning a calibration. This for me seemed to solve the problem. I have also noticed on my D300's when the battery starts to get low (well before the indicator indicates low) the autofocus starts to drift and the images become less sharp. I change out batteries now when the indicator moves to the right just one bar and that issue is gone. Maybe thats why your first 30 pics seem to be fine...

  10.
Steven,
Since I don't want to be in the shipping business, when ever the subject of shipping the packages comes up I immediately respond with " I could but I'd have to raise all the package prices to cover postage and handling, and in effort to keep the prices as affordable and as low as possible for all the families in your league, the current method of delivery works best." I have found this has always worked for me as no one wants to be responsible for higher prices.
I use the same method, deliver to league, league to coach, coach to kids and rarely have problems with kids not getting photos. One league I did have problems with, I had sign for the packages the next year. Every kid got their packages.
Works for me, hope this helps...

  11.
Has any one else expierienced this? Yesterday I was shooting a D300 with a VR 70-200 in manaual mode, aperture at 2.8. The on camera light meter would work on the my first shot and then peg to the left. Everyshot, the shutter had to be readjusted (even when the subject stayed the same). Sometimes the camera wouldn't let me go above 1/1000. Aperture priority also appeared wacked (shot exposure all over the place).
Tonight will try different lens and different D300, wondering if maybe its a communication problem between the lens and camera, or a camera problem.
I guess what I'm looking for are any ideas or previous similar experiences, before I ship the camera off to Nikon for a couple of weeks.
Thanks in advance,
12.
Does anyone know where to get replacement rubber dust covers for a) the bottom of a D300 and B) the plastic covers for the bottom of a Mb-d10. I haven't had much luck with searches.
Thanks - Eric

  13.
I was hoping someone could help me with a quick question: shooting D300 with SB800, is there an easy way to turn the flash on/off without turning on off. I know that sounds whacked, but I'd like to be able to switch from natural light to flash quickly (have both options) without actually pushing the on/off button on the SB800 for 3 seconds each time.
Thanks for any help,
14.
I shoot a lot of martial arts tournaments (mostly TQD). I shoot a Nikon D300 and use a 85mm 1.4 lens. I usually shoot aperature priority at 1.8 (I find 1.4 makes focusing harder, if I can go to 2.0 or a little higher thats preferred) and adjust the ISO to shoot around 1/600. I have the auto focus in continuous mode. I also set the noise reduction in the camera to high. Adjust the focus point in the camera so you can put it right on the persons head in the shot. I use the thumb tab alot on the camera to constantly move the focus point so its on the persons head/face. Out of focus face and the shot is no good...
Shooting wide open, you have to be extremely carefull on your autofocus and keep in mind the shallow depth of field. Usually when shooting a sparring match, I concentrate on one of the two particpants. At this DOF,its hard to get both in focus.
Just have fun when you shoot!
15. I have noticed recently (probably due to economy) more and more people asking to do a single individual package

with more than one kid or even a whole family (happens alot in martial arts). Altough this sale is better than no sale,

and have accomadated in the past, I feel I'm getting the short end of the stick. Does anybody have any pricing

options for multiple people in one package? I've thought about family packages, but where do you draw the line on

the number of participants?? Any thoughts or recomendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks - Eric

  16. I just ask the kids to slide their hats up so I can see their eyes. Simple but works... Also pay attention to where the sun is and adjust the group accordingly. Never face the team into the sun, unless you want squinted eyes! The sun never seams to be where you want it when it comes time to shoot a group photo! All else fails fill flash works great, altough I find if you play the sun right, you usually don't need it (except when the sun is low).

    A few more ideas.

    Eric

  17. Is there any way to tighten a lens mount? I have a D300 and D70s and it seems like some lenses mount a little

loose. Is this a camera mount problem or a lens mount problem? Any suggestions how to fix short of sending to

    Nikon.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  18. Thanks to both of you for great answers. I take away useful ideas from both. I was leaning the way you both reccommened. Guess I just needed a little push. I feel very comfortable moving forward with the web pics and the advertising they wanted. The ad is to use one of my photos in their Yellow Page Add. I think comping these 4 images brings a lot of good will to the relationship. They are all ready bringing ideas to futher our relationship; which for me can be described by one word...cool!

    Thanks again,

    Eric
