I’m also facing the same problem…

Thanks a lot Josh. You and your colleagues have done really a good job. Now I can access my ‘Workspace’ quickly. Best regards.

Without any doubt, I’m in favor of anonymous rating and critique system. In my opinion anonymity in rating and critique will definitely help a member to get more objective ratings and critiques.
Lex,
As you’re referring specifically to rating, I want to share my anxiety regarding this present anonymous system of rating. This is really good for the recent requests for rating. Previously it was not possible for a member to rate anonymously a photo, which could not be found in the ‘Rate Photos’ queue. Now it’s possible to rate anonymously all the photos, with requests for ratings, in PN. There is no time limit. It will help the revengeful raters, mate raters and mischief-makers. We must, very carefully, consider the presence of the notorious people who compelled us to change passwords for PN. Lex, just imagine a situation where you’re receiving 10 anonymous 7s in all your photos. It’ll be a nightmare for Josh and Jin. I know that nothing is anonymous to the administrators. Should we request the administrators to keep this anonymous rating for the first 15 days (or any preferable timeframe) from the date of posting? After the time is over no anonymous rating will be allowed. But the ratings given within that time will always be anonymous to all the members.

Another request to the administrators: As all the ratings are anonymous now, why the system should allow members to reciprocate high anonymous ratings from the ‘Rate Photos’ queue? Is it not possible to restrict totally the reciprocal high ratings for a fixed time (it’s two weeks now)? Why should the administrators allow members to do something, which the administrators themselves do not like?

Fred’s suggestion to rate more photographs in PN has a definite relationship to the solution of your problem regarding viewing of your highly rated images. I think, Fred did not try to criticize your behavior in PN. He just wanted to show you how to get more number of ratings on your photographs. Any photograph that receives more than 10 ratings from other members (at least 11) is marked as “most frequently-rated photo”. The most frequently-rated photos of your portfolio may be viewed if you click on “most frequently-rated photos of this member” that may be found in your “Photographer Ratings” page. The most frequently-rated photos are not exactly the highest rated photos. But you may get an approximate list of your highly rated photos. None of the photos of your portfolio has received 11 ratings from other 11 members. So there is no list of “most frequently-rated photos” in your page "Photographer Ratings - Leigh B.". So, I think, Fred has suggested you to rate more number of photographs in PN to get a list of “most frequently-rated photos” which may solve your problem partially.
Best regards

Thanks Josh. This is a really good idea for increasing the numbers of both forum postings as well as viewer.....And this is working effectively.

Congratulations to the winners. Thanks Josh… it was really an enjoyable fun contest. I’m glad to see that one of my images has come in the list of 75 images leading up to the 4 millionth. For a fun, we should get at least one month’s free subscription. At least you should consider the case of Suciu Sorin. Best regards.

Photo.Net is a very good place for learning photography through the interactions with other members. Josh is trying hard to find out a way to help the members for getting constructive critiques. It’s very difficult for the moderators to provide a system where you can get really helpful critiques from very good photographers. In my opinion, if you’re serious about getting helpful critiques on your photographs, you may try yourself in the following way:

Find out some good photographs, recently posted for critique, and put your honest comments on them. An honest critique is not always a harsh one. Don’t establish yourself as a ‘fault-finder’. A constructive critique is not only a fault-detector it also encourages the photographer by appreciating the good aspects of the photograph. Go on posting many such comments showing both the rights and wrongs of the compositions. Don’t expect initially good feedbacks. If you post 100 such comments you may get back 15/20 feedbacks. Don’t get frustrated with harsh comments on your photos. Go on doing this for three/four months continuously without counting what you’re getting back. After three/four months, you’ll definitely find 20/30 very good PN friends who will sincerely help you to develop yourself to be a really skillful photographer. Out of these 20/30 friends you’ll find 5/6 excellent photographers and learned critiques. But initially you have to try hard and to tolerate high amount of frustrations. As Josh has already mentioned, it’s very difficult to absorb really harsh and honest critique. “No-ego”- group is a utopia. If you’re serious to learn photography from PN, in my opinion, this is a straightforward way.

Through your comments, never express aggression to any photographer try to point out only the good and bad aspects of the photographs.

Read carefully the experts’ critiques on other members’ photographs and try to learn from those comments.

Remember that a viewer is an important person for a photographer and a viewer is a person with a different point of view and a different psychological make-up.

Try to put some thoughtful critiques on expert photographers’ photographs.

Request experts personally to comment on your photographs. Specify the points you want to be explained.

Try to post regularly some attractive photographs.

Best regards….Sumon

I wholeheartedly support John and Fred and I think that a neutral gray background will definitely enrich the tonal qualities of the photographs presented in PN. Actually I tried to highlight this issue on 13th June 2009 but couldn’t convince Josh. The previous link is
