Thanks for the direction.
However, now I may have identified the problem I have been through many old photos and most, unless in amazing light seem to have poorer focus at either end of the scale. Is this a normal feature of lenses? i.e. will I see the same results on a new lens, would a more expensive lens (been looking at Canon 15-85) be sharper at lower and higher f stops rather than just in the middle range.
I would still be interested to know if its 'normal' for a lens not be sharp outside of the middle range.
Thanks

Hi
I posted about this subject last week and was given some great advice about tests to undertake.
I have now taken a number of photos using a tripod on a bright sunny day.
The results (on my Sigma) seems to be showing what I think is acceptable focus somewhere in the middle of the range of f stops i.e. at 2.8 (widest) its not great and at 32 its also, not great. 9 to 16 seem to be acceptable?
On the Canon, again wide open is not great and improves as you increase the f stop.
I have seen on other threads that the lens wont be as sharp at either end of the spectrum, however does my Sigma have an issue, is just not a great lens or is this normal?
This is quite important, as this is going to influence the purchase of a new lens if there are problems.
I have focused on the number 15, using a tripod.

Hi
I bought a Canon 60D around a year ago and I have never been completely happy with the shots I am getting as I cant seem to get the crisp, sharp results I got with previous cameras. This is a good example of the results I am getting, which was taken in good light at F 4.5 1/800.
Could this be the camera, the lens or is this me and I am only just noticing now?
I have tried a test shot with a tripod and remote, but still thought the images were not sharp enough am I expecting too much at 100% view?
Thanks

THanks for responses. Yes, its the Wapping sign.
I printed one and its hanging in a local business, however I have now had further requests from other people for similar shots.

I have a picture that I want to sell of a street sign. Firstly, would the council or local government who own the sign (I presume) consider this a property rights issue? how about the owner of the building?
Lastly, is selling a picture as a work of art different from a comercial image (not advertising) i.e. postcards, gretings cards etc?

Hi
I have been asked to take a shot of Dubai Marina, when i am out there this Christmas. I have not been in about three years, so i am sure its changed a hell of a lot!
Can anyone advise on the best vantage point?
I want water, boats and some towers without any cranes if possible.
I want to take a dusk and night shot.
Thanks

Fin Ina, not sure what you mean?
Steve, what relevance is this to the question I asked? not sure of the point you are trying to make.

Hi
I have been asked to undertake a collage of shots for a Real Estate agency (UK).
Questions: -
The shots will be of street signs, do I need permission to sell these images from the local municipality?
Should I sell the images individually or as a package?
What is a commercially acceptable price range?
Thanks

I can't work out how to!
I have asked forums, but have had no response.

-

Apologies if this is not the right forum.
I have heard that as a BT Broadband customer (in the UK) I can get a Flickr Pro account for free.
Is this the case and if so, how can I upgrade?
Thanks

Thanks to all of you, I think I'll try the prime lens first as it seems like an inexpesive way to get the result I want (with some practice!)
Nathan Gardener, no need to reply to any of my posts anymore!

yes apologies, 5D mark II.
I am currently using the 400D with a Sigma DC 17 - 70 (2.8 - 4.5).
Mainly I shoot street, beach, graffiti, but being in the uk light is often not great!

-

I currently have a 400D and in good light conditions I am fairly happy with this camera.
Where I struggle is low light conditions as I am not great with a flash!
This would be one of the key reasons for considering an upgrade.
With the higher range of ISO settings available would this be answer? would the levels of noise at higher ISO cancel out the benefits?
I am prepared to upgrade, but for the right reasons and don't want to be disapointed if I get similar results.
I suppose another questions would be, should I be doing something different with my current kit or upgrade?
Thanks

Thanks for your answers, I did in fact have the camera set to tungsten. I must have done this error and the symbols look similar!

I'm using he RAW conversion SW with Elements.
Apologies, i'm not an expert! I mean the colors when 'as shot' are very deep almost as if the shot is under exposed (not over!)

Thanks

-

I have been setting the white balance to 'day light', however when I come to process my shots the setting is 'as shot' which is usually a horribly over exposed image.
Am I doing somwething wrong 'in camera'?
Thanks

Hi
I have built up a portfolio over the past year or so, based on the type of pictures I would like to sell. I also have a list of the publications and contacts within them and a website for them to visit.
What I wuld like is some guidance on approaching the contacts.
Should I email a link or attach some samples? what should I say/how do I pitch.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

I went to the Photographers Gallery (London) yesterday to view the 2009 winner.
While there a I looked at other work and work that was for sale.
Too be honest I wasn't sure If i liked it or not. Just wondered what opioions were of this field of photography and how photographers move into this area of 'art' photography?
Thanks

300 cm. I am also setting the thin white stripe at 30 pixels, but this varies as well on each image!
The result is slightly varying lines, which is not what i want!
