I am also scanning medium formats with a 4400F, but my results are better. I made a holder from cardboard and scan 2 or 3 times and put the scans together. But it's realy time consuming. <br>have a look <a href="http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com/essays/scanning/Backlighter.html">here</a>. this might win you some time. I will give that a try as soon as I have some spare time.<br>I know this is not the way to go, but I don't want to spend a fortune on scanning pictures.<div></div>

Go for a Canon Selphy. I love the quality, it's portable and Canon gives a guarantie of 100 years for a print.

I have a Canoscan 4400F, and I am very happy with it for negative scans(for now), try the Canoscan 8400F, as that one has medium format possibilities. have a look at the picture below, it is scanned with my 4400F (multiple scans glued together). If you are satisfied with this quality, go for the 8400F.<div></div>

one extra reason to convert to tiff (or an other lossles format): If the media on witch you store your pictures (dvd, HD, card,...) fails or partly fails, you will lose data. If it's a jpg, your entire picture becomes a jigsaw puzzle, witch in some cases becomes impossible to solve. (example: http://ihadagreatview.org/images/20070618075812_beau-corrupt.jpg). if it's a tiff, you probably end up loosing one (or more) line(s) of pixels in your picture.

Yes, every time you save a jpeg, the file is recompressed (=losing precious information).
Even if you rotate a picture in Windows, the file becomes recompressed and loses data.

hi, if you follow the this link: http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/mythdpi.html, you will get the full explanation with examples and so on.

Thnx to everybody who replied. I think I will go and buy a new FED 5B and switch the viewfinders. This will be (a lot) cheaper than getting my prism fixed.

wouldn't I see it if the prism was separated? It looked pretty ok.
thnx for the reply by the way

I picked up my FED 5B a few days ago, and I noticed the viewfinder got black
for 3/4 on the right side. The focusing dot is still visible (inside the black
part. I tought someone dropped it and some pease got in front of the viewfinder
so I opened the camera, but everything looks nice.
Anybody any idea what this could be and how to fix it?
I realy like this camera and want to use it soon again.
thank you
A WAY OF SAYING THANKS : )
