  1. Thanks Tom, you're right about it making the other colors warmer. I tried cooling them off but then it just looked flat. I think if you're going to modify a picture like this you need to keep the pop that results. Glad you liked it.

After reading the comments I can't help but agree, I've toned it down in my local copy and am much happier letting the composition shine more. I had originally looked at this as a candidate for B&W but the red kelp and rust with the blue reflection from the evening light as well as the warm glow of the sun off the water actually do add something and they add even more when the sky isn't overwhelming the scene (as much).
  2. Maria, I had considered taking it black and white but I found myself so attached to the green on the trellis and the red on the door. I agree that the saturation on the doors might be a bit much though and the brightness on the vines too I think. Now that you mention it I definitely feel those elements drawing my eyes outward on both sides making it a little uncomfortable to see the whole image. I may have to do a little more work on this yet. (It's an HDR, but I'm guessing the gradient in the sky gives that away =)

Thanks for helping me identify it, I usually have to wait for my father or grandfather to look at a flower to figure out what it is...
