My set up - D80, 17-55 f2.8 (spectacular), 10.5 2.8 (most fun), 18-200 VR (convenient),
SB 600 with Wong diffuser. 50mm 1.8 (low light)
I tried and sold the 35-135 kit lens and a 55-200 VR. The kit lens worked well but not
enough coverage on either end. The 55-200 was fine but a bit cheap feeling and when I
got the 18-200 had no need for this one.
I'm just a hobbyist/soccer dad. My current set up is all I need although if some unknown
rich aunt sends me some cash I wouldn't mind the 12-24.
Back to my "baby" the 17-55. I purchased this used for less than half the retail price and I
have an emotional attachment to it. It's very sharp, quite fast and feels great. Big but not
huge and it brings out the best in me, photographically. When I drop dead, I'll be buried
with my 17-55.
The 10.5 fish eye is just pure fun. Those who have it know what I'm talking about. You
plop that onto the camera and you never quite know what you'll see.
The 18-200 is nice and VR helps. It's totally functional (does what it needs to do) but I
don't love it.

I suspected there was something strange here, thanks much for clearing it up. Much
appreciated.

I'm relatively new to digital, and recently purchased an 18-200 lens. I needed a UV filter for it and was
shocked to find that it cost $85 (72mm) because digital lenses require special digital UV filters. Is that
correct? All I'm trying to do is protect my lens and $85 seems pretty pricey. Thanks.

Suggestion: try out the 17-55 for 10-20 minutes. It's an experience. I've had mine for several
months and I'm amazed at the shots I get. I really do believe that it brings out the best in me.
If you can swing it financially, go for it.

Can anyone tell me the major advantages of the 50mm 1.4 over the 1.8 for my D80? The price (3x) seems
hefty, but I plan to hold on to the 50mm for a long time. I need some convincing to go for the 1.4.
Thanks!

Can anyone point me to a site which offers digital frames for photos. I'm looking for basic stuff, nothing
fancy. Just to outline my shots. Thanks.

Just got this lens used, but have never done macro/micro photos before. I have a D80, can someone
suggest an intro to this form of photography - where/how do I begin? Any input, advice or links would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Got my D80 in October and picked up the following (all Nikon products) since:
17-55mm 2.8 - Results are spectacular, I use it for over 80% of my shots. It?s
psychological but I just love the way this lens feels ? heavy and solid. I just love taking pics
with this lens, it brings out the best in me.
10mm 2.8 - Sharp and lots of fun fish eye, for special situations only. A good companion
to the above. I never know what I?m going to see through this lens ? it?s a blast.
70-300 non-vr (got it very cheap for kids' sports) will probably replace it with a VR zoom
at some point) This ?cheap ($80)? purchase was probably a mistake)
SB-600 flash with Gary Fong Lightsphere (a must). Still learning how to use the flash,
because my 2.8 at ISO 1000 perform so well, I rarely need more light.
Looking into the 50mm, just for the speed for indoor existing light for those times when
the 2.8?s just can?t cut it.
When I get the VR zoom and the 50mm, I?ll be set. Right now, I?m still learning. My first
camera (a HS graduation present from dad) was the Canon AE-1 Program, then the Nikon
7000i, so I?ve got a lot of catching up to do.

I'm new to digital - purchased the D80 in Oct with two zooms. Last month I picked up the
10.5 2.8 slightly used. It's my favorite lens - an absolute blast. For the below shot, I was
stopped in traffic, so I stuck out my cam through the sunroof and snapped.
