Stay with the plastic fantastic or wait for the L. Happy shooting.

-

It was discussed again but I notice after many months nothing changed. Is the "search by caption" very
(very) slow? Does it work? Something else happens? Thank you.

"...whether or not I am being wrong..."
There is no right/wrong in art. Photography is art. Art is freedom. We may use traditional or modern software techniques to process our photos. Photography may also be combined with other arts (paintings for example), nothing wrong with this.

I am with Frank. Yes, get both. Perhaps also 600mm if they can afford this also.
Ok seriously now, better stay with the 300mm 2.8 and after some years think again if it is worth anything more. Happy shooting.

Canon 50mm, 1.2L. Paintings, everything.

For concerts I am happy only with fast prime lenses without any filter on. For me there is no other choise. Better to avoid big white lenses that attract too much attention. This is just my opinion.

For my taste a version between the original and the edit of Patrick would be even better.

-

This was nice.

"Its been badly photoshopped"
Stephen it would be nice to show us your work. I admire the work of Patrick and I would like to admire your work too.

I would get the 580 now and the 85mm f1.8 later. With 50mm f1.8 you can make nice photos.

-

"In terms of sharpness do you guys think there is a huge difference also?"
No. The huge difference is in build quality.

-

"This is the only prime I have"
................................
"You already have a 85mm and a 50mm"
...............................
Sorry for my English but I do not understand. You have both 50mm and 85mm? Then I would recommend the 35mm. But if you have both then I do not understand the "This is the only prime I have".

I prefer the first one. The second is interesting but with less details and in this case I like the details. Just my opinion.

"I want a lens that can produce outstanding quality for portraits"
I would wait until I could buy a prime L lens. The zoom is very nice for "all around lens" but for "outstanding quality for portraits" it depends what you consider as outstanding. This is just my opinion.

ISO 100 or max ISO 200, f8-f11, and fill in flash for the people.

I agree with Tommy Lee.

Patrick, good work.

It would be nice in every formal published test to be included the serial number of the lens tested. I would be even nicer to test more than one copy of the same lens under the same conditions.
Anyway both are really sharp lenses. For the rest you get what you pay.

Mark welcome to this great community!

"Art is art. There is no need to intellectualize it".
Yes, art is art, you don't need to intellectualize it. You may intellectualize it, you may not.
Art is freedom.

If you are novice better to start with people that you know well, knowing the character of model helps. Also with friends you don't have so much stress. Later on you may work with "strangers". That is my personal opinion.

I do not use on camera soft focus anymore. I used to like it. Now I prefer to control many parameters in post processing.

Mr Lex I respect you, though not allways I agree with you.
I do not write about you, nor PN mods.
I write about "on duty" raters.

Fred I do not care about ratings and I stop rating. But Calvin cares. Please far from me the "big fat ego", I have few people here that we teach eachother, not with numbers. Please also do not dictate to me how I will think and feel. YES, IT IS A GAME. It happens sometimes (in games) the players to complain to referee. I do not see anything bad in this. Referee is human. We respect the referee but we do not have to agree with the referee. Goodnight.
