1.
I am looking for advice about a new ball head.
My gear:
Nikon F100, 20mm, 35-70 2,8, 80-200mm 2,8 ED, 300mm F/4.
Hasselblad 501CM 50, 80 ,150 mm.
My budget is about $250-300. Markins, Feisol, Cullmann, Photoclam, Benro?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

  2. Hello. If using a softbox as the main light, is it common to use a second

softbox (maybe smaller, or further back, an umbrella) as the fill light? I'm

very new to studio flash photography and just learning. I like the look of a

softbox as main light and a silver reflector for fill (b&w portrait), but I'm

curious to know what else people use to fill with, ie, what other type of

modifiers such as an umbrella, normal reflector, etc... Doesn't seem right to

use soft diffused light as main, then fill with harsh light.

Thanks in advance for the help Stefano.

  3. I've been looking for a lightweight head capable of MF work. I've toyed with

the idea of a ball head but have been put off by the price and possible

problems with precision when setting the camera up for architectural shots. I

see a number of you appear to be using the 410 mini geared head. Is it any

good ? I have read the Manfrotto brochure which recommends this head for

35mm/light medium format. I use an Hasselblad 501CM camera with 250 mm lens.

Would this head be suitable or is it better the Manfrotto 405?. Many thanks

    (again) in advance. Stefano.

  4. Thank you everyone for your responses.

I have chosen a tripod Gitzo 1340, now I need to select a tripod head (for my hasselbald equipment). I am curious to hear other's experience regarding ballheads. What brands and models, and do they perform to their advertised maximum loads? Thanks in advance.

  5. Hello, I have just about decided to buy either a Gitzo 1410 or 1500 tripod. I

use Hasselblad 501CM equipment (mostly) and my current longest lens is the 250mm

f5.6. I've become more interested in landscape photography lately and I can see

some big glass in my future.

I have read the postings and Gitzo is universally considered a more stable and

rigid platform than the Manfrotto. I am not interested in carbon fiber. While I

favor the 1500 for it's reputation for strength, the 1410 is lighter and would

be easier on the back. Would the 1500 be overkill?

Has anyone had experience with both these tripods?
