  1. PN can opt not to display MSN videos ;p but yeah I agree it's probably a scripting error with ther video feed. Not at all sure what you can or should do about it, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks, Brian. I've been a PN member since 2000 and I love this place! sorry I haven't renewed my subscription, I hope to soon.
  2. Hi,

I'm frequently getting an error when I load a forum page, and it appears the

error displays just before the MSN Video starts to load at the bottom of the

page. (Hint: the MSN Video preview is a bad idea, I wish it wasn't there.)

    See attached photo

  3. Very cool, William! Creative background! I would have never known the Knoll plugin existed if I didn't post to this forum. Now I know that I can achieve pretty close to the same look using plugins that would take me hours to learn the manual way.

Thanks everyone for your inspiration! Keep posting variations if you want! But I have enough goodies to play with and keep me busy for awhile.

  4. Sorry, I'm so used to posting here on the Wedding forum, where people I am acquainted with post that it's almost an involuntary thing. I should have posted this in the digi darkroom, sorry Mary.

David, your muted colors look most like the original target that I was shooting for. but people really didn't seem to care for that look much... so I think I will just keep experiments.

BTW I have a set of 60 images from this photo shoot if anyone cares to see them. Although I suppose these shots are closer to glamour/fashion than social events. my bad. :(

  5. This is not a wedding image... it's more a social even than wedding... Okay I added used autoFX to add contrast and tonal sharpening and dark enahancements..

I really couldn't figure how to optimally make all of those contrast/saturatino enhacements manually, but these plugins seem to help out a bit.

  6. I posted this image for critique awhile back, and one PN member was kind enough

to make some edits that I think really enhanced the focus of the image.

However his explanation of how to reproduce this look has me a bit mystified,

and I have been unsuccessful in my attempts. Does anyone care to take a minute

or two to see if you can figure this out? I'd love to see a .psd file with the

adjustment layers as he described, to achive this look.

Create one layer with enhanced contrast&saturation. Optimize for jewelry.

Then you create another layer with redused contrast and take off something like

50...70% of saturation. Then you just mask out the correct areas, use different

    brush pressures if required.

You can add some light tricks with "lense effect" in photoshop, that's how I

    made the one jewel shine.

The warming I made with a constant color amber layer, 20% density, the blend

mode, .... I think it was linear lighting. (I believe Phoshop CS has a direct

color temperature adjustment. I've got v.7)

The original larger image can be found in my portfolio.<div>00GkkS-30290184.jpg.8746116b2e4844241485558eb23feb13.jpg</div>

  7. Hi all,

I'm still contemplating a new digi-cam purchase. I'm curious whether

any of you Leica fans would prefer the D-Lux-2 compact over the

Digilux 2 model? I primarily shoot candid and documentary style

photos, and I find the lens and the grip of the Digilux 2 very

desireable. However the Digilux 2 has it's own problems, and perhaps

the D-Lux-2 over comes it's shortcomings?

alternatively, I am considering waiting until the Panasonic DMC-L1

model comes out. Again I like the form factor of the L1 and Digilux

2 very well, and I am hoping that the L1 solves some of the noise and

speed issues that the Digilux 2 has problems with.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these options.

  8. CS2 is great! Step 1. Used shadow/highlight set highlight at 50. Step 2. Adjust Exposure +1.5. Step 3. Sampled brides dress and set WB at 245 using Curves adjust layer.

My current monitor's calibration has expired, so i'm not sure how accurate the WB is, going only from what the PS sampling tool readings said.

    What do you think?

I agree with Marc. You have to properly meter the ambient light before taking a formal pic like this next time, to avoid repeating this mistake.<div>00GLBz-29861784.jpg.afc880039f52787af64c0e486a6927ae.jpg</div>

  9. Lacie electron22blueIV -- I'm not the only one who feels this is the best color reference monitor for the money. Check out the review in the Jan/Feb issue of Photo Techniques Magazine. After 4 years it's still rated as one of the best valus for color repro work. It doesn't look like Lacie manufactures these anymore, but the MSRP was around $799 so if you can fine a used one in great condition, it should server your needs for wedding photography, and any of the color corrections you need to do. As you probably know with the Sony, the Lacie is a BIG monitor, so make sure you save extra space on your desk for this puppy.
  10. Thanks, everyone, for your honest and discerning commentary. The precise reasons that I wanted this camera are 1.) The lens 2.) Manual controls 3.)Small, unobstrusive form for street and candid photography. Since I'm trying to get by on just one camera, this suits my shooting style perfectly well, and prevents lens lust with all the delicious choices of glass that one can buy for Canon or Nikon bodies. On the other hand, if I have to put up with noise in ISO 400, the lag time when shooting RAW, EVF problems, and a mere 5MP then the jury is still out and I'm just not sure I am ready to buy this camera. I don't think I will be able to make a judgement until I actually use the D2 and try shooting in difficult low lighting situations and printing an 11x14 from any one of those images.

Thanks again, folks! I don't own a Leica yet but when I do I will proudly participate more frequently in this cool forum!

  11. I had an epiphany today when I realized that the much touted Nikon

D200 doesn't really fit my style of shooting. I gave up on the

commercial aspect of photography and no longer shoot weddings, and so

after realizing the form factor and quality to be had in the Leica

Digilux 2 model, I was hooked. This may very well be my next (first)

    digital camera purchase.

I just thought I'd like to hear from fellow Digilux 2 users for an

honest, objective commentary on how this camera performs and whether

it is everything that the brochures say it is. For as cool and

expensive as owning an Epson RD-1 would be, the quality and price of

the Digilux 2 is very attractive, and I just don't think I would need

more of a camera 98% of the time.

What are your the things you like, and what things annoy you about

this camera? Would you mind posting and sharing sample images from

    this camera?

    Many thanks!

  12. I know there are a few of you wedding photographers from the Twin

Cities, and I'm hoping that you can help me to locate a photo lab

that offers custom digital printing with same day service. I'd like

to get an 11x14 print made, but because I'm working mobile while

travelling, I don't have a color managed workspace on this laptop to

edit the original. Or do any of you use an Epson 4800 who wouldn't

mind making a print for me? ;-)

FYI I called WHCC and they cannot get the print made for me before I

leave on Thursday, so I am seeking alternate labs that might offer

    the services I'm looking for.

    Thanks.<div>00EtzE-27584984.jpg.871b5006fe2f9e6c5a120d04c9501acd.jpg</div>

  13. You might try posting your technical html/website questions at www.experts-exchange.com for quicker response. I think you will be surprised with the quality of help you can get there. I just kinda have to laugh at how many html/website questions are posted here at PN that could easily be solved at experts exchange.

Or you can use Phil Greenspun's "Learn To Program HTML in 21 Minutes" tutorial. http://philip.greenspun.com/panda/html

I won't mention my disdain for frames, but if you insist, check out this link. You need to use the "width" property in whole numbers or percentages to get the iframe to extend border to border. (E.g. width="100%")

    Good luck to you!

  14. I haven't chimed in for awhile here, so I'll throw my 2 bits. 2005 I made great strides in digital imaging on the desktop, and I learned quite a lot about printing too! As I have warned before, wedding and event photography requires more skill than just operating a camera, unless of course you are going to turn creative control over to a lab technician or another artist to do your printing. That essentially is exactly what I intend to keep my grips on, no matter how advanced technology becomes. As a serious photographer, I want control over how the stuff gets printed, included paper selection, crop, color balance, etc... I have truly appreciated the assistance and motivation I have received from folks in this forum.

And I am making further progress in the digital realm! I have decided to sell a few pieces of film equipment laying around so I can buy the Nikon D200 when it comes out later next month. Like Marc, I intend to continue shooting film and digital, but I am really excited about Nikon's new offering, and at a really reasonable price!<div>00EKCV-26706984.jpg.246344b6d543e6f7b4244cf51158e629.jpg</div>
