Thanks guys,
The infor provided by you is correct. It is 1 ft. Thre is a typo not only in the manual but on my suppliers web sight. It's still a great lens but I wish I could figure out how to get greater magnification.
Thanks, Steve

I have to agree with Hector. I not sure that there is another lens out there that can give you more of what you want than the 70-300 VR. I to am consideruing selling my 70-210.

Hi All,
Just got the new lens and am wondering why I can't seem to get any closer than
about 7 or 8 inches from my subject? The literature states a 1" min. focus
distance. I've read the book but seem to be missing something.
Any help is appreciated

Well, guys, I just thought it was a way cool looking older camera and picked it up at a garage sale for $3. I'd never heard of the make before so I thought it might be something rare. Looks like classic cameras don't really carry a great value, do they? It is however interesting to me and I'll use it in the feild just for the fun of it.
See Ya, Steve

Hi All,
Found a Vitomatic II by Voigtlander west Germany in what appears to be perfect
condition. Anyone have an idea as to value? Found a lot of stuff on it on
Google but couldn't find a value.
Thanks, Steve

Hi All,
I have an idea but need to find some tin type 4X5 media someplace. Anyone have
any sources?

Matt, Thanks for the info. I had no idea what was going on with a blind rating. So far as the spikes are concerned, I suppose it's another mystery yet unsolved.

HI all,
Everyone here seems to have a great sense of fairness about the rating system. I wrote Josh and let him know what a great learning tool this site is. The immediate 3/3 responses are a mystery to me as I'll post for a critique request and get three or four 3/3's and 0 views. If no one has looked at the work, how does it get rated? I truely enjoy this sight and will continue to subscribe. It is one of the greatest learning experiences I have found. I'm intersted in the ratings as a learning tool. As some of you have pointed out, don't worry about the numbers or don't get your panties in a twist over them. I don't, but if someone is kind enough to look at what I've submitted and kinder yet to comment or rate, then it is a vehicle for making different choices with what it is you are doing. Some of my photos didn't deserve any higher than 3/3 and that's fine. In those cases I'll sometimes send my rater or critiquer an email and respectfully ask them what it was they saw in the shot that didn't appeal to them. Usually, I'll get a very honest response. That is also a great learning tool. I'm very gratefull to all of you folks that have given me a sense of direction and don't feel that anyone has diected me toward a bad picture.
Sorry this was so long winded.

Hey Mark,
That's a pretty good idea. I'll start that conversation next week although I don't think it would have much to do with this website. As a matter of fact, I don't look at these ratings as something to worry about but they do help we newbies develop a direction. Are we headed in a positive direction or do we have to study what the numbers and critiques tell us and learn by them? What is it about this shot that I need to work on or, why is thia shot getting approval? They are both good learning tools.

Hi All,
I hope I'm not going to stir up a hornets nest with this but in examining some
of the top rated photos that appear on the daily front page I've noticed
something that seems a little strange to me. How can someone post a photo that
gets rave reviews (73 77's) and is obviously a classic work of art and some of
our members give a rating of 3's? Granted, these works of art are not yet mine
and someday I hope they will be but, there seems to be something personal
toward some members. Does anyone else see this or is it my lack of traing?

I'm sure that this question has been asked but I can't find it in previously
asked. How do you re-size a photo down to 3mb's for posting for critique?
Thanks, Steve

Hi Guys,
You are great. This is in fact an F mount and has not been converted It does not match the mount provided in the picture but you did let me know that I can get the mount converted. This I certainly did not know. As soon as I found the lens I put it on my D200 but it didn't seem to do it any harm thank god. I won't be doing that again. Of the several other lenses I found, three had an AI mount while five did not. I'll research to see if these are worth converting.
Thanks,
Steve

O.K. fellas. What a great help you all are. Here is some of the information requested to help me out. The lenses were used on both a nikon F and a Nikon EM. I can see by the photos that were posted that some of these are not compatable with my D200 but the one I am mostly concerned about is: zoom-Nikkor Auto1:4.5 f=50mm-f=300mm lens. Model #756350. It's a very large and expensive looking lens that looks as if it has never been used. Several other small lenses that I have id'ed by looking at the mount that are not AI or AIS mounts.
Thanks ladies and gents

Hi all,
Found my dads old lenses for his Nikon film cameras. My question is; Will they
do any harm to my Nikon D200? They fit but of course are not AF's and will have
to adjust focus and stops manually. Does this confuse the electronics in the
new SLR? Thanks for any help.

Well, The processor between my ears have kicked in and I may be at a point where I can actually share some of my shots. You guys are better than my photo class.
Thanks guys,
Steve

O.K. Guys, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input.
Thank you,
Steve

Wow, you guys are great. Thanks for the rapid responses.
So, That must mean that in digital, in order to shoot in a format, you must need a digital back. Correct? And thanks for responding again Tony. My classes start in February so I may learn some of this and not feel such a fool. Until then, I have you guys.
Thanks, Steve

Hi All,
Once again I come to you hat in hand. I was at a proffessional Photo expo
yesterday (great place for a begginner eh?) And was asked what format I worked
in. My response, "HUH?". Looking at the large format forum and the med. format
forum it seems to do with film and equipment and size. I keep telling my wife
that size doesn't matter but I could be mistaken.
What is Lrg. & Med. format? Does this apply to Digital at all?
Thanks, Steve

Thaks gang,
I knew I could count on you. Now if I can just figure out how to turn this thing on.......hehe

Hi All,
I have a problem. Going to Costa Rica next month and I'm limited to 25 pounds of luggage. My photo gear weighs 18
pounds. Is there a way to cheat the weight limitation?
