Russell, whyfore art thou, Russell? Of what-huh do thou speaketh?
-
Allen...you've left me speechless!
Erm.......I can't draw.
-
Art is....this thread.
-
Gordon, if we have to get a room, it needs to be big enough for you, too.
Now, can we get back to being acerbic? Russell was saying about tub thumpers......
carry on.
-
John, what accused? Sounds like a done deal to me. :)
-
John, you have NEVER for a minute been "not good" in my book. I have the utmost respect and liking for you and I hope you know that. Russell is growing on me, too, but don't tell him.

This place is driving me nuts!
I posted an oh-so-witty response re: my drama queen act (Juliet's dagger) and it seemingly has been eaten!
(I can claim it was witty because its gone....ha!)
-
Russell, it does indeed. Except sending my cards out is still on my to-do list for 2007. Oops.
I suspected I might be misunderstanding you and that's why I addressed it directly. Thank you for being direct in response.
Now I see your humor is very dry and interestingly, mine has been likened to the Sahara. I'm going to go root around for Juliet's dagger so I can be properly prepared when I see the havoc you've wrought on my poor little snapshots.

Ah, well, I'll weigh in on behalf of all of us tub-thumpers. Not all of us have great talent, no matter how much we would like to. Most of us thumpers are trying our best and have no intention of annoying those of you who are quite good (which you are, Russell).
So, I'll nominate myself Head Tub-Thumper and extend a sincere welcome. If you drop by my portfolio (which I doubt you will), feel free to crucify my images. But..one favor? Please take the time to say what's wrong with them.
I look forward to more of your contributions.

No Russell, that's not what I said. However, your previous comment was quite insulting. I merely pointed out that some people enjoy intellectual stimulation, and that it is not necessarily a case of
"People who can 'do art' usually just get on and do it. Those who cannot just spend a lot of time waffling about it, presumably to make themselves feel better about it all (that is the only possible reason I can see for so much pompous and pretentious bleating). It's the visual equivalent of playing 'air-guitar'."
Now that I've explained that, I'm through with this particular subtopic. Hopefully you will see what I said as it was meant and not as bait for hostilities (which I do believe your previous post was).
-
Why do some people "waffle" about art? Because they have intellect and enjoy thinking, maybe.
-
Thanks for all the advice. The 50 mm isn't all that big, is it?
-
Roger, I love comments that rip into my photos...but I'm not typical I think.
-
That's the sort of critique I like to get.
-
Oh good advice.. Thank you.
-
Thanks, John, I always weight your input heavily.
I like Pete's suggestion of a sharing forum or maybe "positive feedback only" forum.
-
John, thank you for sharing your photos. They were wonderful. I have wondered about how to handle the hoards of people and I think you did the best possible approach: Include them. I've wondered how crowded it will be in very early March but people-free is a pipe dream I think.
I've been giving the kids a few tips on how to shoot (drawing from my own limited knowledge base) so maybe we'll get a few good ones among us.

Ok, I lost track of the main thesis in this discussion. I feel kind of dumb, but can someone give me a quick synopsis of the major point?
-
Einstein being both a philosopher and a scientist is most interesting.
-
What a timely thread! I, too, am going to Rome at the end of February. Planing on taking the Rebel XTi (hubby has one too and will also have his). Between the two of us, we'll share the 18-55 kit lens, the 28/105 , 75-300. I most likely will leave the 50mm 1.8 at home.
-
I love that attitude, John. But how many PNers share it? I do, and I know some others do, but many aren't asking for critique, but for admiration.
-
It this has been damned fine discussion and has given me much to think about.
-
My intention was to capture the image of something I thought pleasing. And now I get it. I thought it was "intention to make art" that was the point. But...intention to create something that looks a certain way...yep. I'll buy that.
-
Interesting point. I'll consider that.
Correct me if I'm wrong...
