Let me add my two cents. First, I think we should encourage difference and experimentation. Even if we don't care for the result (I DO like this one). It is nice to appreciate what the photographer is trying to achieve.
I find no discomfort in the pose. I particularly appreciate the use of light in this photo. The model's face is compelling, not just because of her natural appeal, but due to how her face is lighted.

Appears to be a slight "halo around the top of the head." This can easily be eliminated.
