Dan, thank you for the advice.
The price of CTPhoto seems fair. I wish they have mailers.

thank you Andrew.
Does anyone know if there are any good film developing labs in longisland?

Hi, I have been looking for good and cheap places to develope b&W negative and
some slides. Anyone have recommendations?

FW900 was one of the best crts back then. If you need a lcd, go for EIZO, but it is very pricey

If you need a high-end performance unit, then the PC is the only way to go. With 2000$, you can build a monster desktop with a decent 24' lcd monitor. Intel has been dropping down the price of performance CPU recently and harddrive is just so cheap (recently bought 320G+500G SATA II for little over 150$). Video card like nvidia 8800ultra is dirt cheap. You can easily get 4g ram for no more than 200$. A full tower case with 650w power supply. There are so many things you can do with a PC

Ray, if money is not a tissue then definitely consider apple macbook pro or I would say IBM T61p. You can find plenty of reviews online.Personally, I would choose macbook pro, but since the OS switching can be annoying, do consider the t61p. It's a solid performance workstation.

what's your budget? If around 2000$, then plenty of choices. I would say go with apple macbook pro, but if you don't have a desktop then I suggest you get a desktop first.

The easiest way to remove wrinkles & blemishes is probably using healing brush and dust&scratches filter but you still need to work on the skin tones and other imperfections of a image. It can take hours just to retouch one image and it all depends on how far you are willing to go.
The ultimate way is mentioned above: lightning and makeups.

What I meant was the color management option in LR. It used to called something like "colorspace sync", but it's gone in 1.1.
Thank you for answering my question tho.
-
LR 1.1 removed the feature of choosing colorspace for some reason and i believe the default in LR is set to ProPhoto which might be a good thing. However, what if people use Adobe RGB1998 in photoshop? Wouldn't this cause a color difference between LR and photoshop? I hate to convert color space every time switching in between LR and photoshop and yet I haven't found a efficient way to make LR and photoshop work together.

Thank you for replying my post.
I thought there is NO compression when saving as PSD file, but how come the file size is almost half as small as TIFF file?
I am thinking categorize my images as following
1. RAW 2. TIFF or PSD? (uncompressed, 16bit, all layers,Adobe RGB)
3. TIFF (LZW compressed, 8bit, flattened, sRGB)
4. JPEG (for web use or small prints, sRGB)
Does this look reasonable? any suggestions?
Thank you

I have been trying to optimize my photoshop picture editing workflow but
encountered some questions.
Lets say I am editing a picture in Camera Raw in photoshop. I first convert the
raw file into 16bit image and make changes on exposure and so on, then I open up
the file in photoshop do other changes by using adjustment layers. I then
convert the image back to 8bit.
1. Here the problem is that the file size would be huge (usually between 60mb
to 100mb due to multiple layers) if I save the file into .TIFF format. I want to
keep the flexibility to modify layers later on but the image size is just too
big. Is there a better way to balance this?
2. When do you actually Resize your image? Surely large image is great for
high resolution printing but it also takes huge amount space of harddrives.
3. My last question is that How do you manage your photos? Do you keep raw
file, tiff (high resolution image right after doing all adjustments) and a small
size jpeg for other purposes at the same time? This way it would take tremendous
space of harddrives but at the same time gives you great flexibility for later
use. What is the best way?
I hope I have made my questions clear. Thank you for your time.
