<p>"When looking at the histogram in any of the above programs whether it be in the levels adjustments dialog, the curves adjustment dialog, or NX2's Quick Fix histogram, when I take the dropper or cursor and sample from her face or skin tones, it shows them properly exposed"<br>
Beau, quit relying so much on all this stuff and step back and take a look at the picture. You really need to learn these things: proper focal length; choosing the correct ISO, choosing your aperature and shutter speed to achieve clear, beautiful, emotive photographs. It's sooo dark on her face you can't see any detail. The shadows are red. These pictures quite honestly are worse than the ones you get at Kiddie Candids. </p>

@ Patrick. Yeah, the noise removal native to CS3 is not exactly as good as NN :o) But yes, I think that your answer is exactly what I was looking for. I think I just had too much on my mind today and didn't think about creating an action. Sometimes, its right under our noses.

Hi Jorge,
I use the previous Spyder 2 and I haven't complained. I got it at Fry's Electronics, can't remember what I paid, but I want to say it was around $129-$159. Works for me.

I just got Noise Ninja and really don't know much about it. I am wanting to take noise out of about 70 images and
want to know if there is a quick way to do a general noise removal on a whole bunch at a time. I have the Photoshop
plug-in Professional version and would like to know if theres a batch for this type of general noise removal. I don't
really need an explanation of the fact that Noise Ninja will soften the fine detail in images. I know this and I also
know that at the moment I am looking at opening each image and doing a quick profile, adjusting the luminance, and
moving on to each one, one at a time....forever. I am looking at using a generic threshold for reducing the noise in all
of the images at about the same amount for all. I just need to know if there is a way to do a batch.

I felt the need to correct something...the statement that the cycle of the lamps occurs at 1/400 is wrong. What does happen is that it becomes visible in photographs taken at that speed thereabouts. With fluorescent lamps, on AC power, you will have two drops in power per cycle (120 Hz or 100 Hz), and you will have "flicker", for lack of a better term, at twice the mains frequency.

Alrighty everyone, I went back to the venue and brought my ISO down from the max to around 400 or so, lowered my shutter to between 1/125 or right there abouts, and lo and behold, that was the whole thing! You guys who knew about the flashing effect of flourescent, bravo! I remember a science teacher of mine way back in grade school telling us about that, but I had forgotten about it...turns out that it cycles through those varying temps at a rate of about a 400th of a sec,; sooooo we must keep our shutter speed below, say 1/300 or even 1/250 to be safe! All of the other factors matter not. It wasn't any other thing. Tried other ways to make it happen again, and it only did when I went above that 1/400 mark. Thanks everyone for a good, educational discourse. Cheers.

That makes sense....but I wanted a very narrow DOF, so I guess what I should've done is bring my ISO way down instead of cranking it up like I did. Then I could've used a slower shutter. Thanks.

It is located on one side of the frame each time. Notice how on vertical shots it is up and down and on horizontal it is located in the same area, thus the band occurs across the top. Puzzling.

I shot these last night at a kids event and noticed the banding right away in
camera. I shot several frames right before and did not have this issue. As stated
in the subject line, I was using 5D with 50mm f/1.4. The lights in the room were
office flourenscent lights. I used both AWB and the preset and it did not seem to
matter which one, I still got banding in several shots. Someone please "shed

My suggestion is you have two, three or more cards, each depicting the type you wish to push on the card. But this image is definitely not for kids or weddings. Models, ok, but with separate cards, you can target each area with a specific look. OR, like Tim said, just say photography.
-
Same as Eric. It is kinda cheesy to show yourself holding a camera as well. People will know you're a photog without literally shoving in their face. They won't care what you look like holding the camera, they want to know what the RESULTS of you holding your camera look like! :o)

There are some errors in grammar and spelling...the words "the reason for this and to as why..." [for instance] The other wording in that section sounds syrupy and does not tell me anything I need to know. Also, you state you have been taking pictures for 10 years, [but the] angel section features photos of the same girl which are out of focus. [The] "senior" pictures is of a lady that looks about 28-30 and the black and whites look a little flat. In [the] portraits, [there are some] awkward poses against a fence, the one on the ground looks like the dad fell down. Also all the faces are in shadow. Not flattering. Try fill flash. (planetneil.com) (strobist.com) Try a shallower depth of field. My critique is harsh, but hopefully you can get help from it. Good luck to you.
[Moderator note: post has been edited to be less harsh - but still direct and honest]

need.more.work.
I too enjoyed this game. Thanks for starting this! I'll come up with better words once I get my business really going. :o) I only graduated last year and I started in November. I need to market myself to better clients.

BTW, the store has a studio in the back that it uses for yoga classes and other events and this is where I would set up. There is a waiting area in the middle with seating and a large plasma tv.
-
Alright, apparently I didn't make myself clear. We are not talking models. These will be the women who purchase their clothing at the store. The carrot is a free sitting and an 8x10. I wanted an opinion on whether to take all comers, appointment only, or a combo of both.
-
Hi All! I have a question about a "photo day" event I have coming up at an
exclusive clothing boutique store. I usually do weddings and portraits, usually
not in such high numbers as this though. There will be promotional material at
the store for one month prior to the photo day. My question is, should I take
the clients as they come on the day of, or have them make appointments in one
hour increments (for example) ahead of time? I don't want to make more work
for the sales staff, and I didn't want people to wait too long...I was thinking
to display my number and the appointment info prominently and have them call me
and I could take the appointments myself. Or not do appointments and just
take 'em as they come in. what do you all think??

And I loved the bride adjusting her shoe! I have watched your site since before you were a member of WPJA. Have to say, I wasn't sure about whether I liked your style then...you have grown and I must say the butterfly has emerged! I really do like your style. I am still learning and not there yet, but I hope one day to be as successful as you are. Congrats!

My flight leaves Dallas at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Pumped!

WOW! The same thing happens to good graphic designers that happens to good photographers..."Don't be fooled into paying $3000 for a wedding, just go to craigslist and there's some dude on there that will do it for $300, paying more is just stupid." Righteously, ironically funny!! Well, not to some. Buyer beware and you get what you pay for, and all those things Mother used to say.
-
I am not really responding to your actual post, as I am not in LA and am not technically qualified to mentor anyone as I am still a student myself, but I just wanted to say...WOW! You have some awesome pics in your gallery at Flickr!

Thank you gentlemen! Of course my instinct was to carry on but wondered if anyone ever checked (sounds really risky). But you're absolutely right; safe is with me. And...I have taken notes with mine before...you get 'em right every time! Hope to meet you there. I love Florida and will be happy to visit again.

Oh, Hi Jeff, I didn't see you'd already done the correcting! :o)
Gracias por rescatar a nuestra gente que no sabe leer en Espanol...:o)
