  1. I love the fact that I don't have to care about batteries, have a large/bright viewfinder, not a load of accesories, not having to scroll through menus to find something that might help but really is there just to avoid having to think, small pieces you can loose, dependence on computers (that are anything but reliable) etc etc.

And the reaction from elder people "now that's a camera" is priceless.

  2. HEY!!! Today I just took photos at the same place with the C220 I bought last weekend. Only I stood at the other end of the pond. Must be a popular place to take pics. (rechts van de brug over de Schelde in Heusden als je van Gentbrugge komt?)

Next time I'll take my Clack with me :)

  3. From what I remember the lenses are compatible with the C330, there is only one exception and it is the other way round. I would love the parallax indicator, but that is what makes the differnce between the C220 and C330. So close up work is harder with the C220. But close up work isn't my intention.

Ground glass is OK but I miss something like a split prism as I find it difficult to judge correctness of focus. Certainly when held at waist level, then I don't see it with or without glasses.

I appreciate the lack of noise of the shutter, but why the film advance makes a lot more noise is something I don't get.

  4. I'll take a look at the seals under the screen, hadn't tought about those. The glass needed a cleaning

I have read the relevant parts of the G.A. Patterson site, there I also found the links to the manual.

''A Rollie lens puts them to shame.''

I can only hope it because if they didn't for that price...

  5. I never understood the attraction of TLR's. Only way to find out is using one I guess so I got myself a Mamiya C220 with the 65/3.5 lens. It isn't in mint

condition, rather well used but everything seems to work. Have to check the shutter times and replace a few light seals that became sticky. Belows

looked fine, that was my main check. Compared to the price of Rollei's this was cheap enough to take a gamble.

    Off now reading the manual.

  6. The Exakta is the last incarnation of the Pentacon. They were more rugged but shared a few problems. One of the most important differences was the coupled prism. They are rather rare and when they show up they are on the expensive side. (I'm also looking out for one)

If you want to get in the pentacon 6 system on the cheap then the Pentacon 6 TL and Kiev 60 are possible. both share the same lens mount as the Exakta. However, both a Pentacon and a Kiev might need some TLC before going out with them. Do a search here and on the net in general. Both are subject to love-hate feelings.

  7. There is only one risk in it disappearing: tooling to make film becoming impossible to obtain (or too expensive, it is the same). As long as someone that sees a way to make profit making film can obtain the raw materials and the tools (coaters) someone will make film. But when buying a new coater (or maintaining an old one) becomes impossible then it will disappear. Another problem might be knowledgable chemists and process engineers. This knowledge is becoming extinct if there isn't a new generation willing to gamble to take over. No use having a working coater if there isn't anyone around that can work with it and produce a usable film before you burned through your funds.
  8. To be at 1/2" you'll need to go to 0.5". It is now overcast and when I put it at that speed and point it outside I have to close to f29 and then the meter says I'm 1/3 over (it's 16h). So in the evening this shouldn't be that hard.
  9. Since a day or 3 this forum has become soo slow that is is close to unusable.

Opening the forum, directly in the "medium format" section takes 1.33 minutes. It

starts with contacting adserver.00web.com and waits 47 seconds for this, then it

waits a few seconds for www.google.com and then it waits for adyieldserver.com

until the page loads after 1.33 minutes.

Just going to another section it takes about 10-20 seconds (mostly 15-16) at

adserver.00web.com, then it spends 10-15 seconds with www.google.com and

then 20-25 seconds on adyieldserver.com. Loading a page is never below 30

    seconds, mostly around 45 seconds.

So opening a post and adding a reply and you are gone for at least 3 minutes,

    more likely 5.

  10. I remember that as well. Back then the technical problems were battery lifetime and synchronisation. The issue was they had no way to synchronise with the shutter so they had to constantly monitor a few things meaning the battery drained very fast.

I think it was a good idea but it took too long before anything came out of it.
