  1. Happy New Year. Post your work, don't worry about critiques too much. Spend more time looking at and critiqueing other's work than you spend looking at your work. Find someone here who's style you like and study their photos. Try to get a paying photography job. Paying clients are only too happy to give critiques. Keep learning. We are all just scratching the surface...good luck.
  2. Not trying to be funny but it's hot under that mask so as soon as the period is over the goalie will usually lift the mask up on top of his head and the sweat will be pouring down his face and can sometimes make for a good sports portrait.
  3. Steve - thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Josh - If I shoot wide open in aperture priority the camera will set the shutter speed to 1/80 or 1/125. Not really fast enough for football.

I've had the best results shooting RAW in manual at 2.8 and 1/400 ISO 1600, then bringing up the exposure later.

If my thinking is off, please correct me. Should mention I am using an 80-200 2.8.

  4. Shooting Friday night football in dimly lit stadiums, sometimes I shoot in

Manual Mode at 1/400 and 2.8. Other times I'll switch to Shutter Priority and

set the shutter speed to 1/400 or 1/500. I noticed that the lcd reads LO for

the aperture. I also seem to get a lot more noise in Shutter Priority than

shooting Manual. Which got me thinking...does my D200 bump the ISO above 1600

on it's own, thereby introducing more noise while in Shutter Priority? Or could

I be delusional? Your thoughts are appreciated.
