Those are great. My brother has a Hawkeye Brownie with a flipped lens. Very cool.

Has anyone caught this? It's on VH1 Sunday nights at 10pm. (I couldn't find a
previous thread on it, apologies if I missed it.)
The show is the same sort of format as America's Next Top Model (same producer,
too). I'm not sure how much experience the photographers have---I know one is a
wedding photographer, and another does live band photography. Their goals are to
become fashion photographers, and that's what the competition's about. Winner
receives $100,000 and a layout in Marie Claire magazine.
I have no interest in doing fashion photography, myself, but love to watch the
show. (I also love to watch America's Next Top Model to see the fashion shoots.
Well, that and the drama queens.)
What I find interesting about this show is that the photographers don't really
seem to get that it's all about pleasing the judges. They seem to just want to
do what they think is cool. Which is not how you win a competition.
I've told my kids lots of times, getting good grades is not necessarily about
how much you learn (unfortunately). It's about figuring out what your teachers
want, and giving it to them. Same with these types of reality TV shows. Is this
a hair product shoot? Then the judges want to see gorgeous hair. Is this a gown
shot? Then the judges want to see the gown!
Ah well, it's fun.

Photographer's Rose Colored Glasses
in Casual Photo Conversations
Posted
I'm often surprised by the pictures I take that people like. I mean, I often find shots I thought were weaker to be the ones people respond to more.
But when you're talking about people (friends/family, even clients) in your pictures liking or not liking them, then you're dealing with their vanity more than you are the quality of the shot. Most people won't care about composition or impact or whatever if they think they look bad in the photo.
