I bought an MX that was described as "in good working condition" as a backup for my 2.8C. When I got it, the shutter speeds were very sluggish and exercising the shutter did not bring them back to life. Sometimes the shutter button got stuck in when it was pressed as well. After poking around on this site for recommendations, I sent it to Paul Ebel in Wisconsin. He brought it back to life, cleaned some fungus from the taking lens (that I thought was just dust), and even provided a sheet with the actual shutter speeds (only the 'after repair' numbers, not the 'before'). Total cost was something like $112 and turnaround was maybe a couple of weeks.

I've used Harry Fleenor as well (for my 2.8C), and he does a great job but as others have noted, is usually backed up and more expensive.

I think this trip is very doable. I would add one additional destination, and that's Wells Gray Provincial Park in BC.

 

First, a note: Canada has its own Glacier NP. It's on the western slope of the Selkirks east of Revelstoke. I'm sure thyis is the park Sam is referring to, and not the U.S. one in Montana.

 

Since you don't know how long it's going to take to get across the border, I'd allow extra time on those days - i.e., don't try to get to Banff or Jasper in one day from Seattle.

 

Here's what I'd do:

Day 1: Seattle - Kamloops

Day 2: Kamloops - Jasper (via Hwy 5). Take in Wells Gray PP on the way

Day 3: Explore around Jasper

Day 4: Jasper to Banff/Lake Louise via Icefields Parkway.

Day 5: Explore around Banff/Lake Louise

Day 6: Banff/Lake Louise to Revelstoke. This'll take you through Yoho and Glacier NP, and you can catch Mt. Revelstoke if you've got time.

Day 7: Revelstoke - Vancouver via Penticton & Manning Park. This is beautiful country.

Day 8: Vancouver - Seattle. You should have some time to explore Vancouver before heading back across...

 

It's a bit of a whirlwind tour to be sure, but you'll get a good idea of places you want to visit again when you have more time. I don't think you'll be disappointed spending "so much" time in inner BC, as it is very beautiful in its own right, and you should find plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

I have no problems with Tri-X in Rodinal. I use the 400 speed in 120, and grain is not an issue for me in "normal" enlargements (up to 16x20 - haven't tried anything larger).

 

I use the Agfa-specified time time, which is actually shorter than the MDC time (12 min vs. 13).<div></div>

As I stated, what I have is adequate for my purposes. Your mileage may vary.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see spending $300 for a ball head for a $100 tripod. I'd suggest looking at the Cullmann Magnesit heads. I have the 25 Nm ($90) on a Slik 713 CF II ($220), and this combination works for me for a Hasselblad and Speed Graphic. The 10 Nm head ($75) might be a better match for this tripod, but I'm happy with what I've got...
