  1. I'd forgotten how much I used to sweat just before I opened up the paper envelope with my prints. Did I use the right F Stop, dammit maybe I should have used side lghting.......on and on. If I was lucky there would be one maybe two really good pics. That would make my day and make me feel like I really did accomplish something...... We now live in the era of instant gratification.

Who says you can't go back......load that SLR or maybe your Haselblad (SP), use that light meter, manually do the settings, adjust the manual focus, breathe deep and squeeze the shutter.

    Merry Xmas

  2. Thank you very much Andrew, I apolgize for not saying I had a k10D. I applied all the points you mentioned in your post. I had already updated the firmware. You were absolutely right that there was no mention of the use of the OK + E-dial functionality in the manual and PDF document I printed off the Pentax site. I adjusted the E-dial values as thoughtfully explained in your response. In the "Sv mode, I set the E-dials as follows:

    Front E-dial P Shift

    Rear E-dial ISO

I did not appear to have a choice not to have ISO on one of the E-dials.

I can see from looking at the menu as you suggested when I first turn on the camera or change modes the functionality of the front and rear E-dials and the green button.

My question relates to the functionality of the green button.

What does P Line mean in Sv mode?

What does Tv Shift mean in TAv mode?

What does arrow P in Program Mode mean?

I note that both the Tv and Av modes have no functionality with the green button is that all right?

Is there somewhere that I can go to get an updated version of my manual that would include the additional functions introduced by the upgrade in firmware?

Once again thanks very much for your response and any insight you can provide on my additional questions.

  3. It would appear that if I am in TV mode, I can just push the Fn button and adjust the sensitivity to what ISO setting I want and it will stay in that setting regardless of the shutter speed and aperture value. I will get a blinking shutter speed indicator in my viewfinder if the values are not acceptable. That solves my problem. Is that the way you should be doing it?
  4. I have looked through my manual and did a search on the forum but for the life

of me, I can't find out if I can adjust my ISO settings when in Shutter

Priority Mode (TV). The front E-dial adjusts my shutter speed but the rear E-

dial does nothing. The viewfinder does not show the ISO setting. I have set

the sensitivity in the custom menu from 100 to 800 ISO. Looking in the manual

(Page 150), it shows only the Shake on, shutter speed, aperture and number of

shots available in the viewfinder. Nothing in regards to ISO settings appear

in the LCD. I guess I have two questions:

Am I missing something here in the setup. I have been over and over the manual

and the E-dial etc. works for Aperture Priority Mode (AV) but does not work for

shutter priority. It is also funny that the ISO value does not show up in the

viewfinder. The picture in the manual doesn't show it does either.

Does the camera automatically select the "proper" ISO setting depending on the

shutter speed I select. It would appear that it selects the aperture value and

ISO value best matched to the shutter speed selected. Is that the case? If

so, maybe I am better to shoot in Shutter/Aperature Priority but again, it

seems the camera chooses the best ISO setting which I cannot adjust.

    Any assistance is appreciated.

  5. My first "serious" camera was a "Program Plus". We both learned together. Through apertures, F-stops and depth of field, my pentax worked miracles. Whether it be slides or prints I always got a few great shots which is really all one can expect. It never let me down through weddings, reunions, portrait sittings and outdoor shooting and for that in addition to be able to use all my old great lenses I owe them my patronage. My new K10D and I have just started a serious relationship which I am trying to keep hidden from the Program Plus.......) The features and flexability are awesome. I think I am a Pentax lifer.
  6. If you submitted a rebate request, AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR REBATE, please be

    aware of the following:

    - The Express Group, who handled fulfillment for the PENTAX BUY MORE...SAVE

MORE...REBATE, has shut down, and their records have not carried over to the

new Pentax fulfillment house. They were, apparently, a bunch of crooks.

    - Continental Promotion Group is the new Pentax Promotional House. They can be

reached at 888-893-3769. You must give them your rebate information over the

phone in order for them to enter you into their fulfillment system. This

process takes about 30 minutes. I highly encourage you to also fax any

supporting documents after the fact to help expedite the process.

The Express Group's phone number is 800-741-1365. Their website for the Pentax

website promotion has shut down. They refuse to answer any questions about the

Pentax promotions, and they mentioned starting a "new company" to handle future

fulfillment for other companies. Give them hell- I want to make sure that they

never get off the ground to screw people ever again.

  7. I bought my K10D @ Abe's of Maine and had nothing but excellent service. Received camera, lens kit, grip, extra battery etc. at an excellent price with a 10 day delivery to Canada. Would recommend them to anyone interested.
