Curiosity. One of my favorite expressions. Keep looking for the moments I say no matter the circumstance. Yeah the highlights are blown. Like I say though something I can forgive to get the shot.

I think I was just puking up my philosophy of photography. Sometimes I don?t know what the heck I am saying. There is nothing wrong with novel or interesting and I apologize if I came off saying otherwise. I think when I first started talking to you I mentioned something about you being a psychiatrist and a photographer and how the two would mix well. So when I see a work of yours I really try to see what you see in that sense. I don?t know. Well I?ll talk to ya. Shay-

Your English is fine to me. The only Spanish I know would not be appropriate here, lol. That's great you and your husband working together like this. Nice to meet you. Shay-
  1.

I am big on emotion through photography. I think it is truly the most difficult thing to capture and convey. Turning away from the viewer as you have is risky because we lose the emotion in the face. However with head down, head in hand, nakedness and darkness conveys enough for us to imagine the rest. I imagined two other ways you could do this; you could use a mirror or a reflection of some sort in front of you as shot here to capture the face.

The other one is that you could face us, framed as a head and shoulder type shot with the same pose on the lower right third and behind, on the upper left third, could be a representation of you, a photo of you or something on a table or whatever just above the shoulder, in a happier moment that would create a good contrast and story. You could then consider the lower left third for some texture. Aspect ratio would take some time to consider in relation to what elements are used and how much space to give them, I would think horizontal with a near 2:1 ratio. All of this would have to be carefully done as to not look staged but that could be debated as well.

As it is here I am not really sure what those items are in front of you or what significance they have. I understand that this is part of your "The Face of Parkinson's" presentation. Displaying photos in this way runs the risk of photos not being able to stand on their own and creating picture book stories. However I think you did well with the juxtaposition and each photo stands on its own.

Well I'll leave it at that for now. I'll be happy to discuss any of this with you. Take it easy now.

    Shay.

P.S. I was going to give this a 6/7 so it could go in my favorites folder here, http://photo.net/gallery/photocritique/one-critic?rater=3677612&period=2000 this is why I find rating useful.

I love it. I don't see any hard light here, wide contrast range yes but the light is soft not hard. She is obviously comfortable working with you which is an important aspect. I've got to email ya soon kelly. It seems we are running some paralles in our work, maybe I am wrong. I am just now starting to get into sports and portrait work. I started this thread here so maybe you can help with some advice. Shay.

  2. I think every photogarpher and everyone who wants to photograph should see this. I think it says alot. I think this is one of those rare cases where the color/Black and White method is actually helpful. Good job. Shay.

Yes! [.Z, he did give me a 3/3 once. He was right. That photo sucked. I had such respect though because it was the only 3/3 I got by a non anonmys rater, even though he's still sort of anonyms. I just wish it followed with some constructive criticism. I'll reply more later, I just wanted to get that out there since it struck such a chord with me.

Like I said I was just a little perplexed by it, slide away it will. I have only been a member since June 2007 and an amateur, practicing, learning, and discovering to be professional photographer for a year. "Featured Members" huh? Sound like it would have been interesting to experience in. I would actually like that, if those members were actually helpful and excluded the sometimes insults that lace harsh critiques. I don't like the fact though if he was a top critic and didn't have photos of his own to back it up. Talking about it and doing are two different things. Well I won't bore you with any further discussion about that, I'm sure you have exausted the subject in the past and it's kind of taking over talking about this wonderful photo. Regards to you, Shay. P.S. We can delete this stuff up to where I asked you that if you like, since the talk is off subject of the photo.

I am a little perplexed by this part of your reply" ...though you may not have understood what it was you were recognizing." I don't want to read to much into it, just wondering that's all. Below is a link of my ratings of other peoples work, they are all not posted there yet for some reason but it should give you an idea of what I look for. Ok I'll just leave it at that for now, not too big of a deal just confused me. Shay

My questions are "why has this not been picked for POW" and "why don't you have more photos?" If you keep capturing stuff like this in the photographic manner that you have then you'll be a genius. 7/7 simple as that.

You know what's wonderful and sad? The wonderful thing is that this photo has story. The sad part is that it is something that is severly lacking in the photo world. Another sad aspect, is that not enough people are talking about this photo, which deserves it.
