  1. <p>Heather are you looking for advice on your photographs-technical and aesthetic or are you looking for advice on the business aspects of your efforts.<br>

I have found great information on analyzing the strengths and weakness of the function of my business by working with www.aimonemarketing.com<br>

Randy has some free materials and also offers online classes in marketing as well.<br>

Most of us are able to work on our "photo" side well but getting the substance of running our business and growing it is so much harder!<br>

Take a look and see if it might be of help to you also.<br>

  2. <p>Always!! Got mine at Container Store, nice neat, cheap, plasic feet that don't scratch floors and very stable.<br>

Use it all the time for formals, group shots and dance shots. Hate to step on chairs, too slippery.<br>

Helps a ton with table shots in tight spots.<br>

Would not be with out it. Generally don't use in church but take it to locations and the reception. If nothing else looks like I am doing something when it is open and at the edge of the floor.</p>

  3. <p>Once there is nothing going on, people are leaving, bride and groom and wiped, I make my pleasant goodbyes to the key family and bridal party members, last to bride and groom.<br>

Instead of asking if I can leave, I just tell that we have so much great stuff, when it will be on-line and what they need to do next. Take the hug and out of there.<br>

One of the reasons I don't give a specific time for ending but instead go from aspect of the day to aspect of the day, is to avoid the clock watch thing. In your case I probably would have waited till about 11:30 also, an hour ahead seems a bit risky, what if something great did go on.</p>

    <p> </p>

  4. <p>Try it! Scan Disc did a test a couple of years ago. Put cards on the street in Times Square, buses, trucks etc ran them over.<br>

Put in and got the data out!<br>

Don't do anything till you know what the issue is. Have a firm limit on what you will offer and stick with it.<br>

Also look at all your images and find images of the people in question so you can assure her that you do have images of them at her wedding. Some brides never pick any family stuff for their album so it may not be as big a crisis to her as it feels to you<br>

    Good luck<br>

  5. <p>Lovely image of a moment that is almost impossible to capture. I agree the focus is a bit odd, what would happen with a tighter crop.<br>

The person on the right is distracting when faced with the blank space to the left.<br>

More monochrome processing would tone down the flowers which are the brightest thing in the image. Takes the view away from the grandmother.<br>

The faces in the mirror are spot on! I would be interested in if you have another shot that has more of the mirror in focus so you could crop tight with the grandmother.<br>

    Nice job!<br>

  6. <p>Albums Inc is probably the way to go, they carry a lot of different manufacturers of albums, boxes etc.<br>

They have an 800 number and I would call and ask for help in figuring out what will work best for you.<br>

In terms of slip in albums yes the prints go behind the mats, usually held on with some tape and then the mats are slipped in. The other style has adhesive on the back of the mats and those then stick on the pages themselves-peel and stick style.<br>

To have V&H without rotating yes you need to go with a 10x10, some 5x7 albums are all vertical and others allow for directional change. Price differences.<br>

Other options are covers where the pages fit into the hinge and bound books that have the page block bound into the cover. Again a lot depends on budget.<br>

    Good luck<br>

  7. <p>while MPIX is ok the full MillersLab options are far better if you are going to be doing albums regularly.<br>

The software is simple to use and the online tutorials are really great. Take one class and you will be off and running. The classes are free!<br>

Their prices and customer service are top of the line. Most albums ship in 24-48 hours.<br>

Covers in a ton of colors, options for photo covers in most of the styles. The same styles of the layflat albums can be done in either e surface or press printing at different price points.<br>

    Well worth a look.<br>

  8. <p>The best and easiest to use software for this is QuickMats4.<br>

It will pay for itself within a week.<br>

Fantastice, simple and no need to mess with creating stuff because it is all there.<br>

I am selling more and more larger prints by using this as a method of presentation that is fabulous.<br>

You can download a test version just do a search under the name and all the info will pop up.<br>

    Brooke</p>

  9. <p>Call customer service. You are having a conflict and they can go in and see what is what and fix it in seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<br>

I gave up on MPIX and went to using MillersLab directly the software is way better and I think the final product is higher quality. WOrth a look<br>

  10. This is a chronic issue there are a bunch of other threads on this.

In most cases it is a heat issue!

Yes changing the cord seems to work but in my opinion by the time you get around to doing that the flash has cooled down and it would have worked anyway.

It mostly is from doing rapid flash.

  11. It seems to be more of a color balance situation

    Have you tried white balance?

Tent has odd tone to it which may be influencing your sense of the skin tones. I would worry about the bride and if the others are off a bit not worry so much.

This is so way not as bad as a lot of what I see.

  12. Millers Lab does them with an auto fill program so all the pages are the same I used those last season but this year I use MyLabPrints because I can do a hard bound album with 1-9 images per page and I can drag and drop exactly the order and orientation that I want on each page, choose the c olor of the border and add additional text etc as i choose.

    Great print quality and pricing.

talk to Adam there about the details [Moderator note: Phone number deleted]

  13. Why give away the album sale? There are so many matted ablum suppliers and you can order the mats you need to fill the design.

Since these do take a lot more preplanning I think it will be hard to have the bride do a decent design job on one unless she only wants single images in them.

  14. YES classic work for hire. The only way I will do it.

I supply the camera and the cards. Nothing goes home with the second shooter. He/she is there to do what I ask them to do NOT to make images for their own portfolio or up and coming competive business.

Watch on the test jobs to see if the person is paying attention to the flow of the day and to where you are and what your needs are. Nothing worse than a second who is always in your shot or not paying a bit of attention at key times.

  15. We gave up print proofing last year and do a bound press printed book that lists the image number under the photo.

This is a good mix between proofs that can be copied and trying to make sense on line of enough images for album orders.

So far my clients love the books. They have 1-9 images per page with larger group shots bigger and a few dramatic shots larger as well.

There are a lot of sources for these. I use MyLab.com which had a great price and the software to customize the page designs.

Easy to do and they come to my door about 10 days after I order.

Millers does nice books also and are faster but about twice the price.

    Brooke

  16. I use Millers a lot but do have a PC have you spoken directly to them?

Their tech people are awesome and I think there is a way to use the software with a MAC but you have to have a patch.

Try calling them and work your way through to someone who really knows what the issues are.

Candid may be MAC friendly but I am not sure. Are you looking for press books or photo printed books? That will be a difference in who you go to.

MAC is not as popular these days so you might need to organize to run the software with your MAC as a PC based one. I have a few friends who can run both MAC and windows compatible on their same computer and that solves the problem.

    Happy searching

  17. Hi

You do not have to make this so complicated The setup you have is the one I use all the time.

The flash is designed to balance the light sources and will require only minimal tweak in post to have a clean look to the skin and dress. 400 ISO is totally doable in this situation and will give you great large prints and enough depth of field to have the groups in focus. With this situation I use a handle and direct flash which is more predictable than trying to bounce all of the place and hope that the whole group is evenly illuminated.

If you have time to try out some bouncing on smaller groups or bride and groom go for it. BUT most churchs in my region will not allow setting up of umbrellas, stands etc. We are lucky to have a few miutes to get something of the group and the couple.

I find that the 800 has great uniform light, but I do use a handle and not a camera mount!! Makes a big difference.

    Good luck

    Brooke
