  1. I use the 8 gb extreme iv card. I select the RAW + Fine JPEG Large option and get over 300 images per card. I usually swap them out prior to getting that many images on a card just for safety purposes. But the card has fast response and it is great to have the capacity. Slower cards are really a pain when it comes to copying them to your computer. This one is fast enough I can burn a DVD+R DL directly from the card without lag issues. Slower cards require I copy it to my hard drive prior to burning DVD.
  2. Lisa, the padded dividers work great in the

    1510.  I ordered my <A

    href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/330237-REG/Pelican_PC1514_1514_Watertight_Case_Black_.html">1514

    from B&H</A> for $153 a few months ago and have had no problems with using

    it as a carry on.  I would recommend picking up one of the <A

    href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/242571-REG/Pelican_PC1500D_Silica_Gel.html">Silica

    Gel packs</A> and throwing that in.  You can recharge the silica

    gel at any point in your oven.

    <p>If you are tempted to buy the <A

    href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/391421-REG/Pelican_PC1519_1519_Photographer_s_Lid_Organizer.html">1519

    Lid Organizer</A>, my opinion is to save your money.  The only real way to

    use it is to remove the foam from the lid of the 1510 which removes major

    protection for your stored items.

    <p>I went to Walmart after my purchase and picked up

    some foam from their fabric department.  I cut this to provide extra height

    to some of the divided sections and to further cushion some items.

    <p>Buy the case, you will love

    it!

  3. Power pack has a 16" cable going to pocketwizard. Power pack has a 12' cable going to flash head. Flash confirmation sensor comes with a 3' cable. Was trying to extend cable from flash confirmation sensor to run it the 12' distance to the top of the flash head to receive proper confirmation. From reading audio information looked like mono microphones using this type of connector would use only the left channel of a stereo extension cable. I was wondering if I could get by with using the one from radio shack since B&H was currently out of stock on the pocketwizard one.
  4. Self contained batteries and flash duration will effect monolight prices. Some facilities will require 1/2000th duration.

    Control options, case type (durability), and overall lifespan. Ability to remotely control options... For the price, ABs are not a bad decision if you do not have the above requirements and don't need a separate controller with interchangeable head option.

  5. <p>I've been looking at the

    Elinchrom White Maxisoft Reflector, 27"</a>. I can make some assumptions,

    but

    would like some advice on when these would be used? What are the differences

    between using a reflector of this type with a

    <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?

    gold deflector</a> to send light to the white reflector, would the output

    color

    be a very subtle change?  What would be the result of using the

    17" variety of the same reflector</a>, how would it compare to the

    27".</p>

    <p>Thank you for your time in helping me understand the usage of these

    modifiers.</p>

  6. <p>I believe

    you are on the right track with the D200. But I also believe you are kidding yourself thinking you will get the

    full experience of this camera with a $170 lens that will end up on EBay. In my opinion I would get the <a

    href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/97413-USA/Nikon_1902_Normal_AF_Nikkor_50mm.html">50mm

    f/1.4D AF lens at $285</a>. This will be

    a lens you will often use in your collection you will acquire and it will not

    be a decision you regret. Spend a few

    bucks to get a protector filter.</p>

    <p>I use the

    Extreme IV on my D200 and have had no problems and appreciate the speed of the

    card.</p>

  7. <p>I have

    never regretted the purchase of my <a

    href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/279328-REG/Lowepro_1987510_Toploader_75_AW_Camera.html">Lowepro

    75 AW</a> case.  I use it with a D200

    that has the <a

    battery grip</a> and leave the Lens Hood inverted on the 70-200.  It is a very close fit but does work.  My protection filter is the <a

    Skylight KR-1.5 MC Slim</a> which does not add to the overall length when used

    with the push on lens cap.  This filter and cap are the same thickness as

    the original lens cap supplied.

  8. <p>I've been considering the purchase of strobe lighting to assist with indoor

    sports photography.  My current plan is to acquire the

    A=details&Q=&sku=482801&is=REG">

    Profoto ComPact-R 600 Watt/Second Monolight</a> probably in the 2 light

    kit.

    My specific questions relate to the use of

    <a href="http://www.profoto-usa.com/products/acute/accessories.asp">glass

    domes

    on the heads</a>.  I'm unclear as to the proper usage of the

    <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?

    Glass Cover, frosted, uncoated Cat# 504-333</a> and if it would assist in my

    situation.  Also what is the difference between using Glass Cover,

    frosted,

    extra UV-coated (-600?K) Cat# 504-335 and using the uncoated version (504-333)

    and adjusting white balance?</p>

  9. <p>I've been considering the purchase of strobe lighting to assist with indoor

    Profoto ComPact-R 600 Watt/Second Monolight</a> probably in the 2 light

    My specific questions relate to the light stands.  I would like to make a

    purchase on light stands that I would not regret later if I get into Wedding

    or

    other types of photography for family or friends.</p>

    <p>In reviewing specifications on light stands I am intrieged by the

    "air-cushioned" option.  I would also like to have the option

    of extending

    the stands to 13 feet.  However I am finding that the closed length of

    most

    13' tripods exceed 40".  I am finding that the 38" folded

    length of the Pic

    brand light stands would make for easy storage and transport.  But I'm

    finding very little information on reviews or opinions of these stands.

    My

    current thought is to acquire two of the

    A=details&Q=&sku=42544&is=REG">

    Pic PP513ACSAIR - Airborne Extra Heavy Duty Air Cushioned Light

    Stands</a>.

    Any thoughts on the PIC stands would be appreciated.</p>

  10. <p>I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my questions. I've learned a lot. After pricing some of the lens options and considering their benefits, I'm going to stay with my original selection. I believe it will not be a purchase I regret and I can supplement it later as desired. I also contacted my homeowners insurance (State Farm) and learned that I can insure what I want for $1.12 per $100 of coverage, per year. For about $50 per year I will find a great deal of peace in knowing my butt is covered if I drop my new toy.

    <p>It appears that the case I selected will work with the 12.5" internal depth, so I'm going to see if it does and beg for forgiveness from B&H returns if it is not deep enough.

    <p>At this time B&H is out of the MB-D200. But I will acquire one elsewhere as I can see the need for it. I've also decided to acquire 3 additional batteries.

    <p>I've decided to keep the memory card so that I have the extra capacity if I need it. But will change cards often if the event allows for it.

    <p>The B+W 77 mm Skylight KR-1.5 Multi-Coated (MC) Glass Filter - Slim was selected after much consideration.

  11. <p>I'm ready to purchase my first DSLR and feel that the D200 would suit my

    needs well. My interest is in photographing indoor horse shows with low to

    average light levels without flash at a distance of 50-250'. The surroundings

    are high in dust.

    <p>I have read many reviews on vendors and grey market and have settled on B&H

    to avoid problems with the typical low priced advertisers.

    <p>My goal is to have some of you experts review my requirement and purchase

    selections and make suggestions. My last digital camera purchased was a

    Minolta Dimage 7i 5.0 Mega Pixel. I tend to baby my equipment and expect to

    use this purchase for years to come.

    My shopping cart contains the following items:<br>

    D200 Camera Body<br>

    Nikon Zoom Telephoto AF VR Zoom Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8D G-AFS ED-IF<br>

    Lexar 8gb 133x CompactFlash with WA<br>

    Nikon EN-EK3e<br>

    Nikon 2-Year Extended Service Coverage<br>

    Lowepro Toploader 75 AW Camera Holster Bag<br>

    <p>Additional questions:<br>

    During my purchase years ago of my Minolta I acquired a B+W Slim KR 1.5 MC

    filter to place on my lens to protect the original optics. Should I make a

    similar purchase of a protection filter for the 70-200 above? Am I crazy

    buying a lens worth more than the camera? Is there a more appropriate lens

    for the low to medium light levels and distances I will be dealing with? Is a

    rider on my homeowners insurance appropriate for this package, or should I

    consider another option (I do not intend to earn money using this camera)?
