I love this picture, it has an edgy quality that really works. It looks like direct flash due to the extremely hard, dark shadows - next time maybe try bouncing or diffusing the flash.

I think this picture has potential, but to really make it work I would rotate the image so that the tree trunks are straight - the tilt of them is really distracting. Second, I would boost the saturation and contrast, or play with curves, to really make the colors pop against each other.

Well, no one knows what your ideas are except you, so only you can judge if this picture expresses them! If it looks how you want it, I'd say great job! :) I do like the motion blur and colors, it's interesting!

Great capture, beautifully done. My only critique would be that I wish the bottom of the wing wasn't slightly cut off. I also think you could bring the saturation (and possibly the exposure) up the tiniest bit to really bring out his colors.

For a school-type portrait it's very well done. I would edit out the piece of hair over her eye and the bright piece on the right of her face. I would leave it like that if you are going for a standard, JC Penny-type portrait - she's gorgeous and the puppy is cute! To bring it more to the artsy/unique side I would play around with B&W conversions, or leave it in color and boost the saturation and contrast a bit.

I really like the idea of it - it looks like a photo from the 30s or 40s, but the flash is very, very harsh. Were you using direct, on-camera flash? If so, I'd look into diffusing and/or bouncing it to soften those shadows and spread the flash out.

I also like this a lot. Beautiful image. I can't tell if it's just the way I'm holding my laptop, but the horizon line doesn't look straight - I would correct that if it's crooked.
  1. GREAT picture! The lighting and composition is perfect and you really get a sense of the subject. If anything, I'd consider cloning out the rectangles in the background on the lower left - they're a bit distracting. But really lovely overall.

As much as it looks posed, it's actually not. Josie was present when

I was photographing her mom and dad's engagement pictures, and this

was taken while she was waiting in the wings watching us get some pics

of just the two of them.

I like this a lot! I would take out the person in the water as he's a bit distracting from the great forms of the two running figures and their fantastic shadows. You captured the perfect positions!
  2. Maybe brighten the sky and/or water a tiny bit...definitely crop or clone out the edge of the wall or whatever the orange thing is to the right...it's hard for me to tell on my laptop because I could just be holding it crooked, but definitely make sure the horizon line is level too.

I agree this is a great portrait. I'm not a fan of the background color though - I don't really think it adds to the picture or really makes him (or his gorgeous eyes) pop. I think this picture would look great with a high-contrast, high saturation treatment like a Dave Hill or Joey Lawrence to really bring out his eyes and the texture of his skin and beard.

    Great picture!

Great picture, great post processing on it as well. I do wish the man was either to the left or the right and not directly in the center of the frame, though.
