I tend to keep the ISO to 100 if possible and never go above 400. Just becomes too noisy with my 40D. Why going auto if you can control, isn't that the reason why getting a DSLR? Otherwise you can easily by the most expensive point and shoot.

Send me an e-mail I found one but had a hard time...

It is most likely visible in E-mei Shan, the positive side it that it is high up and you might get nice pictures with the Golden peak together in the picture.

If I was you you I would visit Yunnan province, great minorities and the most beautiful rice fields in Asia.
The summer palace in Beijing is far more interesting than the forbidden city.

Actually Craig is wrong, even in Chengdu you have a photography building where you can buy everything you need... black and white film and even the chemicals to develop them yourself. Just get a Chinese person to find you where the photography building is and not the computer building where the sell only cameras, lenses and tripod.

I agree with Robert; I have a 50mm 1.8 and I love that lens. It is small, light and crisp sharp. And also the cheapest Canon lens you can get.

Google reviews on these camera's, there are plenty of sites that write reviews.

I didn't read what everyone wrote but just one tip about the FZ50; keep the ISO very low. The noise is immediatly noticable.

I would say shoot manual as much as possible and put more pictures in your gallery so that you can post them for critique. You learn lots of feedback!

And I wear blue underwear!!! This is a funny discussion.
It's like Germans who drive a BMW or a Mercedes. What difference does it make, both of the brands try to compete as much as possible with each other to deliver the best quality people need right now. And I'm pretty sure they have things that we can't image yet but those things are still in there drawer.
And when they earned enough with these series they will change some other things so we could be spending more money and a few year later even more. They are just tempting our needs and creating new needs so they can sell even more. Or is 21 megapixels the end...
Maybe the will integrate shoot to speech applications ;) Just put the camera on a tripod and tell the camera your f-stop, white balance, ISO... and yell SHOOT.

I'm enrolled at NYIP. Yes you can find plenty information on internet and can buy books. But everything is there for you. They are updating their courses right now.
Upto now I would say it's worth the money spend and you can study whenever you want.

I used to use the Panasonic FZ50 and the live view function with the lcd you can change the angle from are very useful when taking from low angles. Also sitting down, holding the camera on your lap and taking pictures from people is great. They don't even realize you're shooting them.

As DN says, you need to use the monopod as your third leg. Make sure your monopod is leaning towards you, just like the leg of a tripod.
