Mine was delivered last week and I have the same issue. It needs a bit more "twist" power to fit than any other lens I have.
Im not concerned though as it's just a tad tighter than normal and this may play itself out over time.
-
Downloaded and worked first time for me.
I like it so far. I have Capture 1.0 already.
This latest version seems smoother and less prone to hanging and giving "Not Responding" titles. I really like the auto retouch brush which was badly needed.
At first glance it looks like a cross between the old capture NX and Adobes Lightroom.

This happens on my D70 as well Jim. Auto WB can give strange results even on picturess taken a couple of seconds apart.
Shoot in RAW mode so you can adjust it when it goes wrong.
I find the Flash WB perfect on most day to day shots. It really warms the whole image up. Give it a try.

Thanks Mat. The mind boggles at the level of technology and engineering that must be involved in that kind of system.

Sorry for the simple question folks but whats the science behind the VR not working correctly on a tripod ?

I have a D70 and use the 110% upsize trick in photoshop. Ive printed beautiful 30 inch x 20 inch pictures using this method and they are sharp and colourful even with your nose right up to the picture. Try it.

Hi Nicole.
I tried to do something very similar a good while back. It was a beach scene and I wanted to get "Silky" water and clouds effect during the day.
The only way I could do this was by shooting just after Sunset when the light was going fast. I had the camera on a tripod with the aperture set to F22....with that the shutter stayed open for about 2 seconds.
I took about 5 shots a few seconds apart and blended them together in photoshop. The end result was pretty much what I wanted.
-
What is it your trying to do Nicole ?

Im leading you up the garden path Frank.
After a bit of research it turns out the Blinkies only look at a single channel as well.
-
One thing to bear in mind Frank.
The D50 Histogram only monitors one channel..the green one if memory serves me right....so while its a reasonable indication its by no means a guarantee youre not blowing highlights..the red and blue channel could be blown and your "green based" histogram would look fine. Some guys recommend using the "blinkies" instead to monitor blown highlights.

Had roughly the same spec as yourself on a previous laptop and NX ran like a snail. Got a laptop with 2gb of Ram and it runs very quickly now. It does appear that 2gb of ram is necessary.

grey spots
in Nikon
Hi Jeremy,
Heres a you tube link with a guy showing how to check for and remove dust spots using the Giotto blower. He's using a Nikon D70s but the theory and method are the same more or less for all Dslr's.
The dust spots usually show up on the smaller apertures, f22 etc, and can be eliminated very easy in Photoshop so dont despair too much.

Roman,
Your bog standard Monitor wont be able to display the huge gamut of colors that Adobe RGB has. The "extra" info is in there but you just cant see it.
However some professional printing machines/Labs will take advantage of Adobes huge gamut of color..but then again most of the Photo labs i know use the SRGB profile anyway on their machines.
The Adobe RGB versus SRGB argument is endless..

Thanks for the replies folks.
Errol, a good use for FV lock is the following...a characteristic of pre-flashes is that some people blink at the pre-flash which results in their eyes being closed for the main flash and therefore in the picture.
By pressing fv lock a couple of seconds before you take the picture you eliminate the pre-flash when you actually take the picture..Hey presto no more 'blinkers'.
Just remember to tell your subjects that the first flash is just a test flash..otherwise they'll all move at the wrong time :-)
-
Hi all,
Just a quick question regarding the FV lock option on the D70.
With regard to taking a picture of someone offset from the centre of a
landscape scene.
Is it correct that I can zoom in on a persons face so that it more or less
fills the viewfinder, press the fv lock to set the flash output correct for
their face, then zoom back out, recompose the photograph and take the pic ?
If I zoom in or out after pressing fv lock does this affect the calculated
output power of the flash ?

Brilliant Advice folks. Thanks for all your replies and tips. Another lesson learnt :-)

Thanks again for all the advice everyone.
I had the D70 ( my first digital camera!!) a couple of months at that stage and I still had it in its auto mode. I guess with the Monkey having its back to the sunlight the camera was doing its best.

Hi All
I took a photo of this chap at my local Zoo a while back.
Im puzzled by the purple fringe/halo around his head. I took the photo through
plexiglass so would this be the reason?
Ive enlarged the ear detail in case its not apparent on the web at normal size.

Had another reply from the colorvision guys regarding this...they say....
"let me guess, you're laptop has an integrated intel graphic card (e.g. i945 or the new X3100)? The problem you're talking about is caused by the intel display driver. For some reasons intel no longer matches the defined standards for working with profile which has been set be the Internation Color Consortium (ICC). I would ask you to either try the lastest driver from intels website or contact intel's technical support for help."
I have the latest driver from Intel and Intel themselves wont talk to me as they say its an issue with a 3rd party application.
The Phrase "Passing the buck" springs to mind.
So it looks like if you are experiencing this youre stuck with it.
Thanks Guys....

Yes its set as default in control panel.
I mailed colorvision tech support who advised me to remove the current colorvision software and download and install the latest software version 2.3.5.
I also removed Quicktime which was causing Vista to revert to basic display mode on startup but none of the above worked.
-
Yeah the Startup folder is empty so I assume Adobe Gamma aint running.
Also I cant see it running in Task manager so im pretty sure thats not it.

Fair point Peter, and a good idea.
Its been sitting on my D70 since I received it but i'll take your advice and break it in on an "oldie".
