1.
I was just wondering if any of you guys have had experience with the Zeiss 50 1.4. I've read reviews that the canon version is really soft at 1.4, but I can't find any *real* examples! I've been using a Leica 50/2.0 R on my canon with an adapter, and I love it, but Leica lenses fall apart and I'm tired of having to replace it for the same problem over and over. Also, has anyone used it on a film canon? I switch back and forth between my 5Dm2 and my Leica SLR, but I'm thinking of getting a more automated 35mm film camera :) Thanks!

 2.
I know there are a few posts on this topic, but nothing recent so I thought I'd ask! I've been using simple photo for my proofing gallery, which was great when I didn't sell a ton of prints! I've been selling a lot more and the 15% commission seems really high. I know there are some sites that I can host myself (picturespro.com) but I don't really like the interface. Does anyone know of any other software that I can host on my own server and use paypal with? I do my own printing through WHCC as I like to be able to control the crops of my photographs so I don't really want anything that just does it for me!

 3.
I was wondering if there is any sort of content management system for wedding photographers, or photographers in general. Basically something where my clients can log in, fill out all the information I need for contracts, shot lists etc, and have a
status" on their wedding albums, photo wait time etc. I feel like a lot of photographers send the same info over and over again to clients, and it seems like something should exist to make it a lot more streamlined/organized! Does anything like that exist?

 4.
I just have basic liability insurance with state farm. I have some extra equipment insurance, but the liability insurance itself costs me about $35 a month... I think with my equipment I'm at around $50 a month. Most venues in california require that the photographer have some sort of liability insurance. I'm not sure why they're quoting you $800 a year! If you message me I'll send you the contact info for my insurance agent :) He's great!

 5.
I thought I'd try here before I went the craigslist route! I'm looking for an assistant for 8 hours for a wedding I'm shooting in Jensen Beach, Florida on June 4th... about an hour North of Palm Beach. Must know how to load a medium format Hasselblad backs, a 35mm Leica SLR, and various other little cameras :) Send me an email if you're interested with references, your resume etc. I don't need a second shooter just a good assistant :D Thank you!

 6.
I have two separate questions, but both of them have to do with lighting :)

The first... I'm looking for recomendations on a good bounce board/reflector I can use when I'm doing my outdoor engagement sessions. I want something to block out a large area... I'd even like to be able to use it for formals at weddings, although i don't know how practical that will end up being. It needs to be easy to transport and not too heavy for my assistant :) I've seen some on B&H with stands, but I don't know what brand/color to get? There are too many options :S All I want is a giant shadow!

The second... My goal of the new year is to get really, really good with an off camera flash :) I love those shots where the photographer puts the flash directly behind the couple and sort of gives them a beautiful little glow :) I also want to just be able to position my flash far away from my camera. I know that there is some sort of remote that photographers use, but I can't remember for the life of me what it's called!

Thanks so much :D

 7.
i usually take 3/4 of the same formal for the same reasons :) i'm editing a wedding now where someone was blinking in every single shot i took of one group lol. so I just chose the best one and replaced the eyes :) i do tell my clients that while i'm taking the formals though, they hear the shutter click a bunch of times then i make jokes about switching heads and stuff. they laugh and i've never had anyone complain or even notice!

 8.
hi everyone :D

I'm very VERY excited! one of my good friends just gave me this random and super huge large format camera for my birthday. She knew nothing about it and thought that if anyone could do anything with it then it would be me :) Anyway, I'm really REALLY excited about it as I've always wanted to try large format photography, but never knew how to get started! Anyway the camera is a Saturn "75" monorail camera by Burke and James. It came with two backs (or film holders? I don't know >.<), a shutter release, and this giant lens. The lens is a Graflex Tele-Optar 38cm (15") 5.6. I figured out how to move the bellows around and put the lens on the camera but that's about it. I'd really like to know where to start just learning about large format photography because right now I'm quite confused :) I'm used to my SLRs and my Medium format cameras but I can't figure out how to "look through" the camera, if that is even done in large format photography. Aak! I can't find much information on the camera online either. I found a place where I can buy a manual, but I'd like to start learning before it comes in :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! And sorry if I sound so ignorant, I just don't even know what to look up :S It's a very cool camera, but I'm slightly intimidated by it's giantness ha.

:)

 9.
Just thought I'd pass along another scam!! Aak! It was kind of funny though. I got this email this morning and after a little research found people talking about it from 06! Thought I would share :)

 10.
I was going through some really old family photo albums and I was wondering what happened to the negatives of the old Kodak square format black and white pictures? I don't think I've ever come across any, ever. I know that with the old brownie cameras you sent in the loaded camera with your exposed film and they sent back prints and new film, but I can't find anything about the negatives. I'd love to try and hunt down some of the originals if they are all in a warehouse someplace. Some of these prints are so tiny it's kind of sad if that is all that is left. Anyway, just wondering :)

 11.
Shoot raw+ jpg... When I go through all of my images its easier to flip through the smaller jpg files and cull the images down. I have a super computer but it still takes forever to go through 500+ raw files. Plus it's a lot easier to fix a RAW file if you forget to change your white balance :)

 12.
I have a strange site setup :) My first section has maybe 20 or so of my favourite images, then i have a "recent" gallery that shows my most recent wedding or engagement session. Then my wedding and engagement sections have maybe 5 of my most recent weddings, organized by couple. Each couple page has anywhere from 30-60 depending on how many photographs I like, how long i shot for, and how many tell the story of the couples day. You can take a look if you want :)

 13.
This may just be a personal thing but get rid of the music!! It stresses me out early in the morning :) I actually booked a couple recently that was so excited because my website was the first one they had been too that didn't blast music in their ears. Plus songs like that are copyrighted and one shouldn't use them anyway!

 14.
I use State Farm for my liability insurance and I love my agent!!! I had no idea what I wanted or needed and he was beyond nice and helped me with EVERYTHING. I don't know if my guy does stuff out of Louisiana, but State Farm is nation wide. If you pm me I can give you his contact information. He's the best :D I have a million dollars in coverage for around $33 a month. I also have a few thousand dollars in equipment insurance and about the same amount in computer insurance. If you do a lot of stuff out of state make sure that you tell them that too as you have to add something else to your insurance package to cover you.

My health insurance is through Golden Rule. I got it through the freelancers union when I still lived in NYC. You get better rates through them than doing it on your own. I have a highish deductible insurance. I pay around $130 a month and my deductible is the lowest I could get (like $1500 or something). It's through Golden Rule. I don't have any nice or bad things to say about them I just filled out the form online and then I had coverage the next month.

 15.
Yeah what she is doing is COMPLETELY not right. I always arrive early to my weddings, even as much as an hour because I left my house too early and there was no traffic :) I would NEVER charge my clients extra for something that they didn't request!
