1.
Hi Moosekaka, is the comment based on the price or quality? I had seen very good comments about 50 1.8 in photonet and read good reviews about it in other forums. During discussions in photonet forums, lot of peopel suggestted I should have 50 1.8 even if I go for satndard zooms. About, D7000, I prefer it over D90 as it has latest technology and am not thinking of upgrading it at all.

 2.
Now shops here are having D7000 body. Since sigma 17-70 ( 2.8-4) not avilable here, am going to get it with 50 mm 1.8. Any suggetions on what all I need to check /test/fine tune while buying D7000 with this body

 3.
Thanks all. James, I saw sample photos of Tamron 28-75 2.8. They are better than sigma 17-70. On most occasions, i shoot people, events or streets. Hope 28 will be "wide enough" in D7000 for such shots. I am not sure whether dealer here has this lens. I will find out this weekend. Hope this lens has only one version. The price I saw on Web is around $380 and 17-70 Web price is around $ 449.

 5.
Finally, some dealers are having D7000 without kit lens. So, planning it with sigma 17-70
(2.8 to 4) OS. Read good reviews about this lens. Only other choices seems to be Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and Tamron 28-70 f/2.8. But sigma has macro also. Is constant 2.8 is important, especially if you want good bokeh?

 6.
Thanks again for replying. Mark, as I mentioned I am thinking of upgrading from point &shoot. Since I may not be able to upgrade frequently, thinking of building a good system like D7000. As I said, I shoot everything (generally). Also, in Delhi the 2nd hand market is not that vibrant so exchanging lenses may not that viable. Thought of trying Pentax but they don't have dealers here. D7000 is also available on booking.

 7.
Thanks all for responding. Today I have checked with some dealers. Seems D7000 is not available instantly. Need to order first. Anyway, Nikkor alternatives for 18-105 are very expensive. I am not professional photographer.
What about Sigma 17-70/2.8-4? Is it better than Nokkor 18-105?
Nikon 24-120/4 VR is tempting but costly J
Any Tamron alternative in this range?
I wanted to upgrade from cybershot H-5. Generally, shoots everything from architecture to birds including close ups of people.

 8.
dpreview review of D7000 says" In any case you should make sure you put some decent glass in front of the D7000's sensor. The 18-105mm kit lens scores points for versatility but it doesn't make the most of the sensor's capabilities.".
Is 18-105 not good? Whatwould be the ideal walkaround for D7000?

 9.
My friend bought a D-90 body recently. He wants to buy a general purpose lens with good image quality. He is thinking about Nikon 16-85, 18-105 and Tamron 17-50(or 55) 2.8. Nikon 17-55 (2.8) is heavy and pricy. Can anyone help him select?

 10.
My brother is having 50 D with 18-200mm lens. He is interested in doing macro (flowers, dragon flies and butterflies etc.). Which cannon macro will be helpful? Is any 3rd party lens available? Can he use any extension tubes or filters with the 18-200 lens for macro? If yes, is there any cannon product?

Thanks for feedback on VF. After searching on the Internet, I couldn't find any Pentax dealers or showrooms in India. That means I have to buy it online or from grey market. But getting post delivery services can be a problem.

 12.
Thanks all for detailed responses. My basic interest is journalism/publishing. So it can include street photography, stage events, portraits, landscape etc. The problem is I am not in a position to spend lot on glasses. Good nikkor glasses are expensive. Two more queriesJ

Shall I wait for K-7 upgrade with Sony sensor (read about that possibility in some other forums)

Which is better D-90 with Tamron glasses or K-7 with Pentax glasses?

 13.
I want to upgrade from H-5 Sony digital cam to SLR. I was considering Nikon D-90. But seems K-7 is of almost same price and good lenses are not expensive as nikkor glasses. Can anyone help?
