I don't have any experience with Sony cameras but with my Canon when I review the pictures and select info there are some of the parameters displayed along side of the picture, if that doesn't give you the information you need download the pictures to your computer and view them with the software that came with the camera and I am sure there is some option to get the info on that particular file that should get you the info you need. You might want to check in your manual under the 2 modes you were using and I bet the sports mode has continuous focus or servo focus.

I agree that the photographer was losing money because all the students were not in school on pictureday. If you are losing money on a project it is hard to keep a positive attitude when dealing with parents with problems. The photographer should have anticipated the problem with the background and shot somewhere else. If he had said I am sorry there was no other place to shoot the group I would have accepted it but to say that he wanted his professional graphic person to fix it just says he never looked at the preview or the picture and just blindly sent the images to his lab (or COSTCO).

 

Speaking from personal experience if something like that came into my lab we would call the photographer to see if he wanted the problem fixed.

First thing is your time commitment. If you have a studio you will have to keep some sort of regular hours. You will need some sort of lighting set up with tripods etc. You might also need your own phone line with advertising (however this could possibly be shared with the store.) Ordering over the internet doesn't seem to do a very good job why buy photos when you can just email your friends with the url where they can be viewed for free?

I have been photographing pre-schools and youth sports leagues for over 30 years and have never used a contract. Never had a problem with "commission" or services we provided. Most schools are small operations and the sports programs are run by volunteers and they really don't want to get involved with legal documents and lawyers.
