  1. It shouldn't make any difference. Just play with the white balance when you process RAW to correct it. At least then you have the benefit of getting it perfect.

P.S if you would like a simpler camera to use you can swap for my 350D, no worries.

  2. Thanks for all of the responses guys.

What sort of magnification factor would we be looking at with, for example, a 500D? I'm a bit confused you see. i've seen notes around but nothing like a ratio e.g an EF 100mm macro gives a factor of 1:1, what does this mean when other magnification is referred to in x? Thanks all

  3. I'm considering picking up some of these whilst saving up for the 100mm macro,

does anyone have any positive experience with this sort of thing? I was looking

at Hama inparticular as these look better than most.

I'de be interested to see any sample shots from the use of these 'filters'.

    All suggestions appreciated!

    Cheers

  4. I'd keep the 17-85 IS USM and save up for a 70-200 range zoom lens or a cheaper EF 70-210 f4 with AFD motor, or the newer EF 70-210 USM. Check out 'that auction site' for a selection of longer lenses. Or sell both zooms and buy an EF-S 17-55 with one of the many 70/75-300 EF lenses.

    Just my thoughts.

  5. Just a quick one,

Am I right in thinking that an f2.8 17mm lens is the same speed as a f2.8 200mm

lens? I mean I could take the same central image with the same speed (same

    exposure) or is this wrong?

Does a crop sensor SLR mean that an f2.8 200mm lens is 'slower' (as it's 320mm)

    or the same speed?

    Hmmmm....

  6. My ideal lens kit for my crop SLR- EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 for the wide shots, EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS for mid range, plus an EF 50mm f1.8 (80mm on crop SLR), and 70-200L f2.8 IS for my telephoto needs (112-320mm on crop) If this helps you out.
  7. If it's only with the flash I'm surprised that its not Err 05.

I'd recommend giving canon or a repair centre a call and get some further advice. Or just ditch the use of the on board flash and get on for the hotshoe. Much more versatile then. check any contacts and mechanisms for the flash, I think there's a switch that shows if its up or not, under the flash. Make sure that this is not stuck. Also could be a problem with the ETTL metering on the flash, in which case clean the lens contacts with something to get the grease off. Water and a tissue should be sufficient for that. Be careful about using anything stronger. I hope this helps you out.

  8. If its a Canon SLR-

Error 99 is a generic error message for anything other than dirty lens contacts (Err 01), CF card problem (Err 02), full CF card (Err 04), or on board flash opening obstruction (Err 05).

Please could you elaborate on the problem, Camera body model, Lens Model, if it happens everytime or intermittent, if it happens when you hit the flash button to pop it up or if it happens when you use the Camera in auto mode?

If this helps, I used an old 80-200 telephoto lens on my EOS body and intermittently it gave Err 99 on the LCD. Never fixed it, just turned it off and on and it seemed to work. Never got it with any other lens or with the flash though.

    Let me know!

  9. Digressing somewhat, but, 'In Like Flint' inspired the Austin Powers series of films. In Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Powers reveals that 'In Like Flint' is his favorite movie.

I think that you should spend an extra ?200 and get the 350D as you will find it to be an awesome camera for the price. Well worth investigating.
