1.
Just looked at the Davidson photo again, the tenement half way down the block on the left was torn down a number of years ago, a modern 3 story building rose in its place. The the intersection in the photo only got a traffic light in the last few months.

  2.
@ Nick Siebers: Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's a Lightroom preset I downloaded...not sure which though.

@ Christopher S.: Neither Greenpoint or LIC, it's actually the southern end of Park Slope, Brooklyn. Actually this block has been very well documented by a famous photographer, Bruce Davidson, in "Brooklyn Gang". The houses in my photo can be seen across the street on the left in this photo from the book: 17th Street photo by Bruce Davidson. I've only known the neighborhood for less than 35 years, much of it still looks the same as then, although that is starting to change.

  3.
Howard, it's the border of Windsor Terrace and Park Slope in Brooklyn.
Love the Black-Eyed Susans btw, spent a week around San Antonio earlier this summer, and they were everywhere!

  4. According to this video, the best way to be invisible is to dress up like a cat burglar with a black watchcap, black pants, and black army jacket, and jump in front of people with your black (of course) leica. I've watched the video 3 times and I don't even see him anymore.

But seriously, get back out and shoot. I've had goons threaten to stuff the camera down my throat and went out shooting later (of course, I ran like hell first!)

  5. Brad,

I used to live in the Carlton Arms (when it was under $25 a night!). Glad to see it has stayed interesting.

Used to be there was no shortage of cheap hotels (that weren't total flops) but prices have gone way up. I lived in Hotel 17 when it was a dive (read under $10 night!), it seems to be quite hip now. Prices are reasonable.

I would recommend Hotel Deauville...rooms are basic, safe and clean, and the staff definately has character (or maybe I should say ARE characters), and they get some interesting people (jazz musicians, etc) staying there.

  6.
I just picked up Bruce Davidson's England/Scotland 1960. Besides some incredible street photographs of his I had never seen before, there is also a facinating timeline of Bruce, and a wonderful essay by Mark Howard-Booth. Now, if I could only find a copy of "Brooklyn Gang: Summer 1959" that costs less than a used M2!

"The Ongoing Moment" looks like a must read for me...thanks for pointing it out.
