  1. I have a Pentax K10D but talked my Brother in Law into buying a Canon XTi

because of his finances. I've seen the results of both and like them both. I

have old Vivitar manual focus lenses lying around I don't need and will donate

them to him (He's on a restricted budget) I have pentax telephotos. Is there a

cheap adapter for these Vivitar screw mounts around I can buy for him as a present?

  2. While my lens was off and i was fooling around with this, i got my first dust specks on my sensor. so far I have chased it from one side to the other with a rocket blower without removing it. I need a clean room for changing lenses.
  3. Whew got it. There a clip spring that needs to be pushed to center, then the removal tool prevents you from unscrewing it further. you need to pull thje removal tool out far enough to keep from blocking its travel.
  4. I read this review from B&H. I think most of his problems would be addressed by my K10D rather than his K110D. I've noticed that the K10D seems to handle lenses a lot better.

    Review:

This lens seems to work well but most photos are

overexposed with the Pentax K110D. Set the expose .5 to 1

stop darker. Focus is inconsistent but with multishot setting, 1

of 3 appears in focus. Not all features of the K110D work with

the lens. When using anything other than auto or program

mode, attempting to reach the F Stop is difficult due to the

design of the Pentax lens cover. But, overall, not a bad lens.

But, if you need all features of the camera stay with the 50 -

200 Pentax lens. I have both and will probably not use this

    lens very often.

  5. I've narrowed my long lens search to these three lenses. My selection isn't based as much as good reports

on specific lenses as much as reports of inconsistency on the reputation of the Tamron, Sigma and Tokina

lenses. What I hear is, "Well you know that two identical lenses of this this type can be two totally different

in quality" When I ask about pentax lenses, I hear, "I've never heard anything bad about Pentax lenses, I

don't think you could go wrong." I don't think two many people I've asked have used pentax.

    My concerns are:

    1. If the range of the zoom is wider (75-300 vs 100-300) do you sacrifice quality for a wider range?

    2. Is it better or worse to have an aperture range on the lens? (does this affect sensitivity mode? When I

place the aperture range on "A" is it the same lens as shooting with a non-aperture ring lens?)

    3. The bottom two Urls seem to be the same except for color, am I wrong or is one better that the other.

Which will look sexiest on my camera?

    4. The K10D isn't mentioned often in the lens features, but the "ist" cameras are. Is this because there is

another generation of lenses coming along for the K10D or is it just that the web sites haven't been

updated to include it in the descriptions?

    5. Am I asking the right question and intelligent questions?

    6. After reading the chart on the bottom link I find the FA lenses seem restricted in their function on the

K10D. The 75-300 zoom is an FA J and has less restrictions of use.

  6. No, not with a cloth until you read extensively on cleaning sensors. Get yourself a Giottos

Rocket blower to blow dust off the sensor (the dust removal works marginally well at best).

Second, NEVER blow on the sensor with your mouth. If you accidentally spit on it, it's done.

Now read read read on cleaning sensors

  7. I started trying to figure out how to get my wireless 360 working with my k10d this evening

at 5 pm. I just blinded myself wirelessly now at 8:35 pm. What screwed up manuals! Three

different sets of instructions (Camera, Flash and Firmware) all telling different stories. One

says you can set the wirelss flash mode in the green mode on the dial. You cant.

  8. I "hear" it also depends on which lense you have. I received this today from a K10D

    owner.......

Yep, I have a K10d, don't know if I ever mentioned it. I went back at old messages and

looked but didn't see any mention of it. 2 things will cause your wireless flash not to work

(other than defective equipment). First, Is the firmware or software level of your camera

and second, is the type of lens you are using. You can check your firmware level by

holding down the MENU button while turning the camera on, then release the menu

button. It should be at Least level 1.10. I don't know if or when they started shipping

cameras with the updated firmware but you may still be at 1.00 level. Pentax firmware is

currently at version 1.11 but 1.10 will get you everything you need and turn on a few other

nice features. Rumor has it they are about to release a version 1.2 for the newer DA*

lenses but unless you have one, 1.10 will get you everything you need and more. You can

grab the official version here complete with instructions on how to install it.

The second thing that'll cause wireless flash not to work is the lens. It will NOT work with

an M (Pentax-M) type lens. That is, if the camera cannot select the Aperture, no wireless

flash. I don't know why that is, it's annoying, and I thought P-TTL controled the flash, not

the camera aperture, but that's the way it is. I guess the camera has to be able to read the

aperture and compare it with the metering to properly set the flash. I was disappointed to

learn I couldn't use wireless with my bellows unit (which acts like an M lens) for macro

photos. With something like the Kit lens though (18mm - 55mm DA) it Should work.

All of that out of the way and taken care of, if you can select it, it should fire the flash (the

camera flash does have to be up for it to work). The only other thing I can think of is you

may need to tell the camera what Channel the flash is you want to fire. The 540 (and I'm

pretty sure the 360 as well) will work off of 4 channels. I think the camera defaults to

channel 1 and there should be no need to select another but it's worth checking. Either the

camera or the flash manual should help you through that (I don't remember which).

There Are a couple modes also that won't allow wireless flash (green mode comes to

mind). However, IF you can select it, it Should work. That's about as much help as I'm

going to be with wireless Pentax flash.
