  1. Bring a nice Point and shoot that looks like a point and shoot if you really want to be non threatening.

Better yet, if you cannot relax and enjoy the day without your camera, then you need to work on social skills (perhaps) or maybe stay home.

The best choice you could make is to leave your camera stuff home. This is not your job, not your venue and not yours to do. You are a guest. Go ahead and give yourself permission to be one.

  2. FWIW here is what I would suggest. Get 6 credits of basic photography (I am assuming she is starting out with no knowledge). These six credits get you solid in how light behaves and in basics such as f stops, shutter speeds, how they relate etc. along with using Black and White film (gasp) and learning printing etc. It is a nice foundation to photography to have this.

After getting solid as can be in the basics, apprenticing with a studio or a pro will give her more. Flash and how to use it effectively is important.

With digital it seems she should also learn photo shop inside out backwards and forwards and that might be a college course.

Formal education is fine if you have the $$ and the time.. and at the end of that you still really need some time with a pro so you know how to work and make the work flow.

I too have heard good things about the NYIP home study course. You do have to be motivated to follow through.

    Good luck!

  3. Windows Vist has not been flying off the shelves or causing lines of people waiting at the counter to buy it. It is pricey and requires a lot of computer to run it. Microsoft also has come up with a new office suite which is also pricey.

People have been burned by buying the first release of Windows XP. They have machines that work and software that works.. and many are waiting to see what upgrades come out after the release (service packs etc.).

I don't care, at this point, if I EVER buy Vista. It isn't currently going to do a single thing to make my life better. It would cost me money, cost me money again to upgrade my computer and then cost me time when they have to send me service packs and patches! NO THANK YOU.

I have never understood the whole technology thing where something new comes out and everyone has to buy it. Same thing with digital cameras. B4 buying, take a good look at it and decide if it is any sort of big improvement or just more bells and whistles.

If it isn't going to deliver a better photograph, why spend the money? Just like Vista.. if it isn't going to make my computer run better, why bother????

Of course I still use a lot of film and my car that I bought I bought used.. so maybe I am not a good judge.

  4. I want to buy a 35mm slide projector and have always found Kodak Equipment to

    be reasonably priced and seviceable.

That being said, what Kodak model and what lens to go with the model would you

recommend. I have been looking at the KEH site, but since I always used stuff

at "school" that just worked, I never really paid attention to what it was.

The KEH site offers projectors and lens separately. They also offer a variety

    of models of projectors.

OI know Leica makes projectors but I expect the price is really high and I am

not sure I want to spend a lot on this.

    Advice????

    Thank you.

  5. I have hiked in Bright Angel and back out.. the trick is to be prepared physically!

Sounds like Edsel here had spent a few too many days sitting in the car and not enough time working at being in shape! Being in shape is very important, whether you are 16 or 66! The air is dry and the hikke is not a sea level.

Have fun! You will find amazing shots!

  6. You are really the only one who can asnwer this question. You know the photographer you are working for better than anyone here and probably quite well after working for him/her for a year.

How is your relationship? what is this photographer like? Are they reasonable and can you talk to them?

Next question to answer is, if you were in the photographer's shoes, how would YOU want to be treated?

If the photographer is disagreeable and hard to reason with, your last day will likely be your last day regardless. If the photographer is a reasonable person, then open discussion would be a reasonable approach.

It does not mean this person will be reasonable in the face of your leaving and cutting into their business or customer base. Have a plan in place as you may be out of a job.

  7. I have seen someone set up a nice slide show on a computer with a nice LCD monitor. This was accompanied by albums to look at, take home brochures and a few large, hung, photos.

If you have a light LCD monitor you can hang this so it can be seen even as hundreds of brides swamp you table!
