Came to your portfolio via the photo of Mt. Invincible that you posted for critique. You're lucky to live where you can see this many stars! Your photo reminds me of a childhood vacation to Canada, and I don't think I've seen the Milky Way so clearly since. Lovely photo for all of us who love the sky but rarely get to see a starry night. This is a really well done photo in all respects--compositionally, tone, hue and content. Can't decide whether I like this version, or the other fuller composition which I saw in your portfolio--both are very nice. As this one lacks words, I think its certainly the more mysterious of the two; it's interesting what's added and lost in the cropping. Nice work! Best, Emily

It's just this sort of scene that instantly takes me back to my other homeland, Nihon. Take care, Emily

What's going on? World renowned child phrenologist has just completed her examination of the various and sundry bumps on her patient. She's confident in her assessment: he's smart, sensitive, with a good sense of humor, she senses a large appetite. They pause to be photographed. Cheers, Emily

I love the expressions on their faces, all three are different expressions of happiness. I especially love the way the middle boy is leaning into his buddy. Just an opinion, but I feel the contrast is a bit too high, at least the way I'm seeing it on my computer. Also, welcome to photo.net --Emily

This photo has beautiful colors that work to create a really marvelous mood. It also allows one to travel back in time in a way that few photos can--as the people, woods, carts and work animals speak of a general humanity rather than being very distinctive of a certain time and place. While many photos taken on trips work on the basis of capturing something that is the essence of a place, this one, for me, seems to work on the opposite principle. Lovely picture. Emily

There's a lot going on this picture-- the marvelous contrast between their hands for one, the loveliness of their seeming to reach out to one another, and I'm assuming there's glass between them? Anyhow, it's striking and well done. Emily

Very moving. If it were my photo I might play with cropping a bit off the very top, both to see what it would look like without the two patches of white, and because I'd want to see what the hands would look like if they were slightly higher up on the image. None the less, it's a powerful image, thanks for posting it. Emily

The composition is really wonderful. The landscape is gorgeous, and there is a real charm in the content, but I can't quite put it into words. Thanks for posting it. Emily

The color, composition and emotions are working well together-- this photo is really beautiful. There's nothing that I would change about it. That also goes for many of the pictures in your portfolio. Nice work. Emily

Thanks for posting this picture--both of you have quite a style. Good capture. Emily

Wonderfully captured! The dancers look ethereal and are quite nicely juxtaposed to their teacher who looks very much for real, and even from the rear--a bit intimidating! No one's face is clearly visible but the picture has a lot of emotion. Emily

I think the tones are marvelous, the cloudy grays of the sky are reproduced on the body of the train nicely. Thanks for posting, it encouraged me to look at your portfolio. Emily

This one and the other one you posted have me thinking not so much about photography, but weight! Emily

With the caption, this picture become incredibly powerful! Thanks for posting this. Emily

Your posting this photo led me to take a look at your portfolio--which is truly amazing! Many of your photos are from a place in the world I have long had an interest in. Your composition, colors, and the evident ease and warmth that I can sometimes see in the people getting photographed, for you, are all a joy to see. I will return to your portfolio now and again to see more photos. Nice work. --Emily

No I wasn't around when these pictures were taken, I remember my father asking me when I was little and most images I saw of the 50's were in B+W, "you do know that the world wasn't black and white, only the film."
