Steve, well done. I looked at the other version also, both appear to have sharpening applied. It's such a nicely composed scene, I don't think there would be an issue with a softer touch (my thinking anyway).

When I mentioned the cropping, guess I brought it up stictly as a photo. I know that birders feel strongly that whatever imperfections on a bird (or animal) it should stay.

Greg, I think you did a super job with track focusing. The DOF really very nice, I like that the wing tips are blurred.

I have no doubts that you wish the other geese weren't in the photo (or at least not in that poisition). As you mentioned to me, can't you just remove them? There seems to be a lot of area to copy from (only my thoughts).

That's not to take away from a technically well executed photo that you've done, great job!

Rachel, looking at your portfolio, your market is the average Joe and Jane. It's too bad you don't seem to care about their opinions, they are the ones you are serving.

Rachel, don't you think there's a reason I've spent my time typing you comments.

Oh, I did post a couple of my photos, Jessica

Very nice Steve! I know it's a vault but ~ the low contrast and soft saturation really create a superb photo.

ps ~ I finally felt that I understood PN enough to post a few photos. Drop by if you get some time.

Rachel, no I haven't had photos posted and sincerly don't know what difference that would make. I'll make a wild guess that most people that purchase photos for their office or home, don't take photos other than just family or vacation snapshots. They are being critics by purchasing the photos they like, that's their commentary.

If you wander around PN, you'll see that some of the most knowledgable critics, don't post photos. It's hard to be constructive and honest without narrow minded individuals just plain responding with anger and hate.

Now, I tend to learn and study what I'm about to do before jumping in with both feet. I actually read and study before using my camera (or, as they use to say, before trying to program my VCR).

The thing that confuses me most is, why do PN members feel that someone needs to take earth shattering and stunning photos to have indepth knowlege about photography?

Jason, I can't believe the second post is the original since it's vertical. Anyway, assuming that it is, I would like to see the young man in the upper left area with area down and out to the right for best composition.

Steve, I think you've taken a great photo. The exposure and composition are right on.

Giving my thoughts of what isn't working, it's that your photo is too busy, too much horizontal and not enough vertical or diagonal.

Colors, tones and exposure are terrific.

I think, what stands out for me are the thorns and their color.

I would like to have seen more on the right but, it is what it is and nicely done.

    Sincerly, Jessica
