Hi Jason! Great action shot! I wouldn't know the difference between a Ham Sandwich and a Melon Grab but I suppose your son would. When I was his age I was flying down the hill on skis! Great memories...

I was thinking about another version of this outside the frame technique. What if the front of his snowboard was outside the frame instead of his hand; then it would look as though he was "leaving the scene". You chose a cute font too. Kim

Thanks Teresa and Ger. This was a panning shot, I did one that wasn't and it would have been an awesome shot, but it ended up very blurry unfortunately! Wouldn't you know it, it was the best in air pose with the knees rapped backwords and a grab on the board with about 2' more of air. Oh well, I will keep shooting, we are going to the actual ski resort on Friday where they have real ramps and rails, hopefully it won't be to dark for some good shots!

Hi Jason,

Having done a lot of motorbike shots last year I feel I got a good grip on panning.

I think if you start out with a mid range lens (100 -200 mm) and shutter speeds at 1/80 to 1/125 or so, get the legs apart and move through with the hips you can get some really great panning shots with lots of movement in the background. I'd love to give snowboarding a go but living in Ireland No Chance EVER of that!!

Thanks Ger, these were done sitting or laying on the ground usually pivoting at the waist. The good thing is I was very close and used a 28-80 lense which was to close at times as the path is fairly narrow. I was able to get fast shutter speeds on this day, 1/2000-1/4000. I haven't decided yet if I will try it or not, or just take pictures... I have to pay the bills...lol
