1. I have an arrangement with 2 of the local HS football teams (I'm in CO). I shoot the headshots for their football program and get a full

page color ad and shoot the games. I also donate a % of all sales to the booster club. This will be my 2nd year with this arrangement.

The school AD does not have any issues with this arrangement.

  2.
I was asked by a prospective client about if I sold cd's with all the image from the photo shoot. I typically don't but enterained the idea and gave her a per image price. All digital images would be fully edited and high resolution. I then received this comment in a follow-up email "...not many photographers go the route of a sitting fee then releasing all of the images..."

Is charging a sitting, session, creative or whatever you would like to call it unusual?

  3.
I will be shooting the Varsity football games for a local high school and have worked out a deal with the Booster's club to have my materials at their table. As of right now I will have a display and some football schedules with my advertisement on the back. I will also have a sign-up so they can be notified when the images are posted.
What would you have if given this opportunity? Would you have it manned by someone respresenting you?

  4.
Unfortantuly that is part of the issue with having friends in the same Profession and location. As long you you feel you are being fair in pricing and attractling clients I feel you have the right to book them.
It is no fault of your own if mutual friends are choosing you over her or vice versa. They may just prefer your style to hers or any other photograher they have evaulated.
As long as you are upfront and clear you are not intentionally stealing her clients you should have a clear concience.

  5.
I am also based out of Colorado. I was told by the City of Thornton that if the product is tangible you must charge sales taxt. You will need apply for a Sales Tax License. Depending on where you are selling and where you are based you may have to apply for a license in the city where the transaction is taking place (i.e. Fair, Farmers Market).
If it is online sales and the product is being mailed then you only charge the tax for the city you are in.
Hope this helps but if all else fails call the tax people in the city you are doing business.

  6.
Sorry for all the unknows. It was about a 15 mile drive 1 way. I was available for 8 hrs of shooting time. Edited during slow times.
The setup was 1 strobe, backdrop, hairlight, reflector.
The primary use is for company website and professional pages (linkedin). They do have to option to order prints.
Shot with a Canon 60D and Tamrom 2.8 70-300 lens.

  7.
I recently did an on location headshot event of about 14 people. I am just curious what others might charge for this type of shoot.
After much research and evaluation I did come up with a pricing model that was submitted to the Company for a qoute and received. I have already invoiced the shoot but this is more of a curiosity question.

  8.
Does anyone have any suggestions for shooting cheerleaders? I have been invited to take photos during various sporting events. I have not been too please with the photos. I take great action photos for the sports for some reason the cheerleaders don't come out that great. Any tips?

  9.
Awesome feedback. Thanks for you input.
I did have a tripod in the car but didn't even think about using slower shutter speeds during the brides walk down the aisle and such. I have never had to worry about too much noise in the past. I may have over compensated during post production. Lessons learned. I now have some tools to work with if this happens again.

You guys rock!

  10.
I did a wedding about 3 weeks ago. This was my 5th wedding and 1st in working with a wedding coordinator. I arrived at the location about 1.5 hrs early to learn the layout, lighting, etc. I spent a good part of that time getting my equipment ready and set for the ceremony.
About 30 min before the ceremony the wedding planner kept asking if the lighting was good or if it should be lowered. I told her it was perfect and I was set. I left the main ceremony area to take some shots of the Bride with here Mom and Daughter. When I returned the lights were dimmed. This was not good. I had to try to re-establish my settings for the ceremony which was about to begin.
I ended up having to shoot at a higher ISO than I wanted. Becuase of that I ended up spending much more time editing images than I planned for. Also since I had to clean up the noise in the images weren't as sharp as they could have been.
Should I have asked the Wedding Planner to adjust the lighting back up? How would you have handled this situation?

BTW, the Bride and Groom are very pleased with the images. (whew!)
11.
I recieved this in my inbox from a friend this morning.
My son's baseball team is looking for a photographer to come and take team and individual pictures of the players during a practice which is normally Wed and Fri nights. They want someone that will put them all on a disk and then you can sell the disks. They last couple of years they have sold them between $1 and $10 each. You can set your price if you are interested and I will let him know. Not sure who else they are talking to so if you don't have time etc. not a problem.
Thanks
I think it's a good opportunity and something I am looking to get into. I have been shooting my nephew's games for a few years now. This would be my 1st individual/team shoot. This could get my foot in the door and possibly more business with sports and family. My issue is the selling them disks. The max in the email is $10 per disk. That seems really low to me. If there are 14 kids on a team that is only $140 not including cost of disk and time. I don't know who they used in the past to sell them for $1 - $10 possibly a parent. The second issue I have is I am not a big fan of selling the disk in the 1st place. In my experience I have not been impressed with some of the proccesing facilities like Walmart, Walgreens, etc. I do have a website and the parents could order directly from me. Now I obviously can't compete with the chains pricing but but can offer a discount. My gut is telling me to counter offer and pretty much meet this request and offer to shoot multiple games this season but the images will be available only through my website. Also if I am chosen to do the t/i pics for next year they will be only available through my site as well. That may be a bit arrogant but but this seems like a lot of work to me for $140 minus supplies, time and taxes. Thank for taking your time and any input is appreciated.
