It is a matter of economics. If you are content with a f2, the m lenses are pretty cheap, and the a lenses are very reasonable. This is where you would spend the least. Dropping to the 1.7 gives you more low-light options. You just have to decide what your main use for the lense will be. If you are looking on ebay, you can probably buy a camera and lens for what it would cost for just the lens. If you have any future digital plans, the "A" lens will let you use you use the camera settings while in mnual focus as opposed to being forced to the manual setting of the camera.
There is a bit of a price difference between "A" and non "A" lenses. 50mm were very common, so the prices tend to be less than alot of other primes.

I had looked at the crocus post and the clicked on the DA*300 post and I was hijacked by a "virus checker" program. Don't know how or why, but exercise caution.

Check Amazon.com, they have had the FA-J 18-35 for $149...but that was a week or so ago and the seller was listed as having 2. They were listed as new.

The one I used in high school had the split screen from the factory, and it was not an SE model. It was a late 70's model.

No, no younguns around that I am aware of. I was just messing around with the lense. I put it on a ZX-M and it maually focused fine on the TV. I then tried it on the K-X and it works fine again. Is there any possibility the the CPL filter cold cause the interference?

I am unaware of it getting knocked around any...so I will go with highly unlikely. It will zoom in clearly at 100, then as you get higher it gets fuzzy. You can still make out the image, it is just fuzzy as opposed to sharp. I even have my K-X set for center focus only and it did the same thing the K100 did. I switched to my FA 80-200 and everything worked perfectly.

I have a 100-300 FA Lense that worked fine the last time I used in back in the summer. I tried using it today, and on the long end after 200 or so it cannot auto focus. Even in manual it is very fuzzy on the long end. I tried it on my K100 and K-X with the same results. Any thoughts?

I have been watching pricing since December, and I think part of the deal is that more and more people have jumped into the market. There used to be tons of film cameras with a lens, but the trend now is to split them up. A couple of years ago I acquired a bunch of film cameras far cheaper than the lenses where at the time. I think it is crazy what people are asking...let alone paying for a used lens. There have been plenty of lenses listed used, that a bit of research would show they could be had new (at BH photo), for far less than the asking price on ebay.

Will an "A" type convertor also work with the auto focus feature of lenses? Or does it need additional contacts?
Thanks,

They have been selling Pentax since at least the spring. Their pricing is "ok", but can easily be beat by other online retailers.

I know the ME Super uses two batteries...or one if you get the tall one (I forget the number) but I have the batteries last for years, so I can't imagine this being a big deal. I went from a K1000 to ME Super in the mid 80's (Shot pictures for the High School paper and yearbookand the ME Super was a x-mas gift.) I have a couple of ZX-M'x as backups. I loved the light weight and small size compared to the K1000. I rarely use film anymore, but will always love my ME Super.

I just checked the price on Amazon, and it is back to $609 from 549.

Although B&H is showing them now for October and November delivery.

I think just online. I looked at a few other sites online, and they don't show it yet.

-

But it is showing as sold out, so I bet they are not in yet. Also, I have not gotten an email from Pentax saying they are available.

They really need to think about their shipping charges.

Just went to Best Buy and they are out of the k20's again...sigh.

-

They did not have those on Sunday. The also have the K200 as a refurb. They sold out of the last batch of K20's about 8-10 weeks ago.

-

Best buy (online) has it for $1199.99 now...down $40 from last week..if I remember correctly.

-

I just noticed the K7 is $1234.09 at BestBuy this week. Costco has the K2000 with 18-55 and 50-200 for $499.

In one of my flea bay purchases a few years ago, I obtained a Pentax "A" 135/2.8 with a P5. It is in excellent shape minus a noticable fleck between the elements. What kind of results have people gotten with this lense on digital? I have a K100, and am hopefully going out of town in a few weeks to Charleston, SC for the weekend, and am trying to decide if I should carry this one with me. What say ye all?
