To clarify the shutter issue, it's the mirror that stays engaged when you press the shutter, not the shutter curtain. When you release the shutter, the mirror will also release back into position. You can verify this by taking off the magazine back. When you cock the shutter for the next picture, the mirror will re-engage and you will be able to view the composition through the viewfinder. You can adjust the shutter speed through the dial on the lens, or 'couple' it with the aperture setting to have them both change concurrently.

This echoes my experience from Adorama. In addition, I have experienced the problem that once the item finally arrives in stock, they do not honor the price from your initial order. This has happened twice with lens filters. I no longer shop from them and have not been shy about telling them exactly why.

The glass carrier is for medium format scanning and it keeps the edges sharp while eliminating Newton's rings, which can be a problem for the medium format film holder on the CS 9000. The part number is FH-869G and it runs around $230.00. You can see a picture of it on Adorama's site.
The black strips are spacers for your medium format negatives that in theory, should prevent newton's rings from appearing.

This is really getting off topic, but I assumed the "Coolscan" name was a derivative of the Nikon Coolpix line - the "cool" part being to distinguish it from their non-digital products.

CompUSA is not going out of business, they are closing many stores to consolidate. These prices you listed are close to retail; check BH Photo and you will see they sell the Epson 2400 for $745.00.

I can't compare the Huey to SpyderII but I have it and it works extremely well. You can turn off the 'on the fly' color adjustment feature. My prints come out exactly as they look on the screen using an Epson R2400 and that's what I expect from a monitor calibrator.

I'd like to know if they have it in stock too. I've always assumed that was just an empty box at Looking Glass, since it's been there so long.

If you go to shopping aggregater sites like http://www.dealtime.com, you can see where to buy the 9000. My search revealed at least three stores that had it in stock, for not bad prices either.

The web cams at
are useful for current conditions. According to Bay Area forecasts, there will be another snow event beginning Monday and last for a few days.
