Yes Mark, I'm in the UK!

-
If you are interested only in filming, then why not to buy a good camcorder in the same price range as say 7D! Along with 7D and 5Dll, I have a Sony CXE730E which makes very good HD movie as well as captures good quality still images. Following is just a captured image from a recent video - hand-held under the room light!

Raquel what made you say that 5Dll focus might not be as good as 7D, ("I fell in love with the 5D that one friend lent me for a while although I know in a few things might be not as good as the 7D or 6D, fps or focus")?
I have both and find that 5Dll focus is far better! Just Google '7D focus' and see what comes up!

Yes, I set my JPEG sharpening at 4 and did more sharpening during the processing which is not my usual practice with 5Dll

Yes, Keith you have shown some good pictures (which could have easily been taken by 500D with a good lens) but how you have achieved them is another story! For example, somewhere else I have pointed out that one of pictures you said was taken at ISO 8500 was in fact at ISO 6400!

-
Crop from 100% enlargement!
-

Interesting, Keith! there are many posts on the Internet suggesting not to go above ISO 1600 because of the noise levels! BTW, your ISO 8500 image is actually ISO 6400 according to the photo details. I have not checked others for their true ISOs! I don't know how much software processing you have done for the image - we would never know, would we?

To be fair, 7D is like any other camera except its autofocus system, which in some ways is unlike any previous AF system in a Canon EOS SLR. In particular, there’s a diverse new set of options for selecting an area of the image to focus upon. It is this focus that needs learning, depending on of course what one intends to capture. The most interesting is Zone AF e.g. to capture fast moving objects using the servo setting. Keith, am I doing well so far?
However, in my experience to have a sharp image, I have to be more particular - sort of extra effort.
Below are two images: (a) crop from 100% enlargement - used specific settings for the capture (b) the original JPEG which was cropped.

-

I can say the same about your agenda, Keith!

-

So the pack is getting nasty!

-
Seriously, Keith, please tell me how exactly to 'configure the AF menu settings properly' - being so perfect in using 7D and capturing these lovely birds in flight, the answer must be on your finger tips!
-

Keith, it is quite legitimate to know which Canon cameras are mostly used! What is wrong with it?

-
Do we know the percentage of 7D and 5Dll used?
-

Any sensible reader of this thread or of other similar threads on the internet would come to a rationale conclusion that 7D has a focus problem irrespective of what any highly sharpened 700 px duck images look like or self claimed teachers preach.
It is simply ridiculous to suggest that the experienced photographers who had no similar problems with other Canon cameras have to sit in a classroom situation to learn about 7D.
Based on my experience, my advice is to go nowhere near 7D – perhaps any 500 series Canon camera would give more joy to a down to earth user!

William, depending on the situation or where I wish, I can use my middle finger instead to press the shutter button leaving my index finger free to roll the Main Dial whenever necessary e.g. to change the settings.
Can you please move on from these childish riddles!

-

Sorry William, now it has come to a point where you make little sense. You are trying to teach as some of us have just held the camera first time! I for one, have repeatedly said that I have/ had no problems is getting good results from my 5Dll or the cameras before - don't you understand that it would not be so should I have lacked the photographic skills.
You are disrespectful to suggest that if 7D is not giving good results, it is because the operator needs to have basic photography lessons from you. Perhaps you are so obsessed with the theory that your own practice (i.e. captures) appears to have developed gaps!

-
William, I know what you are asking - press the shutter using the flat part of the finger almost horizontal at the time of
releasing the shutter to reduce camera shake and releasing the shutter gently rather than jabbing. I know this! What else
do I do next?
-
William, believe you me I have almost memorised most 7D functions, and I have used many possible methods practised in the past many years to learn about the 7D - I'm full of knowledge (sorry I have no liking for riddles, though) - please tell me what exactly is left to learn about this camera - hope it is not rocket science!
-

Keith, please tell us all about "but only if you set it up and use it properly" - what exactly to do and how to do this, please! What is this magic set up and how to use this divine 7D properly! Thanks!

Which camcorder
in Video
Posted
Possibly this question might have come up here before, if so please direct me to it, otherwise:
I would like to move from a simple camcorder to slightly advanced but low price semi-professional camcorder -
possibly tape type (or tape/ digital) - which could be connected to the computer through firewire/ USB - could
have the facility to record the edited video from the computer.
Suggestions, please!
