I ended up taking this shot just because I liked the contrasting
textures and lighting of this scene. At the time someone at my work
kept playing Robert Plant's "29 Palms" OVER AND OVER. Hence the name
of the piece.
Does this work? I wanted sort of an abstract look to it.

I love this photo. For one it seems to evoke that great "old world" sense. Secondly, it seems to be upside down. While the lower half is "empty" the upper half is very "full". Very much the opposite of what one would expect.

Look, when we said we wanted to see photos from the "wedding night", this is NOT what we meant!
:)
I like it though. It has all the hallmarks of being a nice vignette of a special day. Excellent!

Work?

I disagree. It seems cluttered and overdone. The alteratios distract from the model. My eye doesn't know where to go.

This was from my first batch of shots using my new lights. Just
playing around and seeing what comes out. Any way, I was wondering
if the DOF here works. I aligned it with background, so that the ear
and anything past it would blur out a bit and the focus would be on
the subject's face. But I'm not sure if it works. I'm sort of
wondering if I needed to open up another stop or to maybe even go the
other way. Blur the background a bit and sharpen everything else.
Any opinions?

Having an 85 lb. dog that insists on sleeping in bed with us, I have to say this is a GREAT photo!

This is a chrome. Yeah, I know, slide film is usually verboten when
it comes to doing portraits. But I figured what the hell.
I think it worked out in the end. Your opinion?

Another Flam Chen picture. Let me know if it works.

This was my first time shooting fire acts and dragging the shutter.
In this case I used a slow synch on my flash. Does this work? Or is
it too grey in the background?

I think this picture captures the scale of India perfectly. India has always been the scene of grandeur. The temples are massive. The citys sprawling. Even the religion of Hinduism works on a huge scale. This picture reflects all of that. Excellent!

PERFECT! I LOVE IT! I would actually be proud to put this on my wall! The lines work well together and the tails wrapped around each other adds an element of emotion in what would otherwise be a very sterile scene.
10/10!!!

Perfect! Has a chilly feel to it. As if the warmth of the day is retreating. I like it! It also has a very "Northern" look which is is exactly as it should be.

I like it, but since when can you show your knees in Utah? :)

Let's see....pretty much a 100% digitally rendered image. All Photo Shopped...
Yeah, it will get a bunch of 10/10s and be made POW....

Very nice! Get rid of that cardboard on the left, and throw some light on her left arm (a bit dark) and it is a PERFECT image! Great leg shot!

Again, you have some great ideas here... What I think would make these photos really "pop" is if you learned to step INTO the frame.
Let's look at what we have here. A woman, in latex gear on a bike from several feet away. Now, let's think here....what would make this really sexy?
Being closer. Sex is about intimacy. In this picture I feel you are very distant. It's like "Look at her over there...". I think moving in closer would help. Put the viewer INTO the frame so to speak. Get close. Use unconventional angles. Zoom in a bit. One thing that I think would work would be a close up of just the leg coming down across that engine. First off, you have all that sexy chrome. Chrome always looks nice. Secondly, you have a strongly contrasting leg. One that is in a very shapely position too (legs often have to be posed just right to emphasize the calve muscles and get that sexy look). Plus you have the shinyness of that shoe which makes for a great contrast. Attached is an example of what I mean cropped from your image. Try some work like that. I think you can get some great results.
You are definately thinking the right way. Keep it up!

I like it. There are a couple of things I might change though...o.k. one thing I would, and another I would try and see if it worked...
First off, get yourself one of those enhancing filters that they use on redrock. They use didymium to bring out the reds. Very essential I think with this work. Apparently almost EVERYONE uses them when shooting redrock. B+H sells them starting at around $30.00. They sell a B+W 62mm for $50.00. They make a big difference. The problem with redrock is that it tends to get "muddy" on film. The filter will fix that. Certainly a must-have.
Now, as to what I would try and see if it works -
Cropping. I think your shot is degrading the rock spire a bit. Maybe a better shot would have been to have the bottom of the frame at the current 1/2-way point so you get trees - rock spire - sky. This mean you would have to move a bit, but in doing so, I think the rock spire would look much taller.
That said, I do like the tone of your sky. Not TOO dark...not too light. Many people I think over-polarize. You also seem to have a knack for including what I would call "disparate items" in your picture. In that one shot you have included lowland desert, high chapparel, and redrock country. Good vision.

Does this 8 second exposure work?
